SMART Connect Servers

Hey all, 

I am struggling to find adequate information regarding SMART Connect setup both on the website and here in the forum. Could anyone who has managed to set up SMART Connect please take a bit of time to answer some of my questions:

1. What web service did you use? What specific product from that web service?

2. About how much (monthly or annually) does the web service cost to maintain your connect server?

3. How do you set up a local server rather than a cloud server?

I know the last question probably has a bit of a longer answer than the first two, links to resources would be very much appreciated. While I'm aware the website suggests "IT and information security expertise" as mandatory for the setup, but many of us have to learn this from scratch, so providing start-up material would be extremely beneficial for the program documentation. 

The first two questions are the most important for now, so if you don't have an answer to the third, please at least help me with the first 2.

Hi Russel, 

1. You can deploy Connect on Azure or AWS Cloud services. There's some guidance available here for AWS but @Paz, Roger may be able to provide further information and details on using Azure.

2. This very much depends on the service provider and the usage. Roger may know in more detail.

3. As you mention, local server installation requires some additional expertise and IT training. Here's some documentation on the process.

Just to add to what Alex has said which is that a SMART connect training handbook is under development. We hope to have this ready to share with the community for the release of SMART 7.

Hola a todos.

En lo personal e intentado instalar de manera local SMART CONNECT, pero algo que deben aclarar es que aunque sea "INTRANET" debe comprarse un certificado, caso contrario no permite acceder desde la pc al servidor.

Algún experto en TI que me corrija si estoy equivocado.

Personally and tried to install SMART CONNECT locally, but something that should be clarified is that even if it is "INTRANET" a certificate must be purchased, otherwise it does not allow access from the pc to the server. Some IT expert to correct me if I'm wrong ..

Thanks for the responses everyone! So I guess I will have to wait for the incoming handbook. Is there a tentative date of release for this (and SMART 7) yet?

hi All

I also want to try the server route as i think it will make my life a bit easier.

What i am trying to achieve through the server route (and we would like to use our own servers if possible, not cloud based!) is that the mobile devices in the field send me their data that has been collected rather than me going to them all the time. We are far from everyone and everything.

Then other managers that dont have SMART Mobile activated all the time to connect, post, exit .

Some help regarding this would be great.
