Thanks for the question, Lizbeth.

 

I was planning to write a message to the SMART Community about SMART Mobile builds on the stores with this update, so great timing!

 

The SMART Mobile build on the stores currently requires SMART 7.4.1 – this is due to recent changes to Android phones which required a security patch to be added to SMART.

 

For users on SMART 6.3, you can use SMART Mobile/Collect 385 and below. So in your case, you can download build 320 from the SMART website or I can send you a copy of 385.

To my recollection the phone had not been reset as the SMART mobile apk file still remains and one can still access the application, just not the configurable model. I think the historical data in the SMART data had already been deleted, would that give the same impression? I will check the space issue as you suggest, thanks. 

 

What version of SMART Mobile is this and what is meant by keeping a quota? Is it Ok to download this new version from Playstore and replace the version 320 we have been using?

This log looks like it from a fresh device, i.e. it does not seem to ever had anything on it. It must have been reset at some point.

 

For the space issue:

  • Hold down the SMART Mobile icon and on the popup, click “App Info”
  • Go to the “Storage” option

 

That will tell us if SMART Mobile is the culprit.

If you want to clean up, then you can click “clear data” and “clear cache”, but note that this will erase the configurable model as well.

 

More recent versions of SMART Mobile keep a quota, so this should not happen moving forward.

Find attached the bug report, this is from the phone that did not have any issues at all before losing the configurable model. Meanwhile, on one of the other phones, even after deleting the files in the SMART data folder there has been little improvement on the storage capacity of that phone despite it having no other apps, data that would fill it up.

We are using  SMK-build-320-arm32.apk and SMART version 6.  A new issue has now come up with two phones, they have both 'lost' the configurable model. The SMART Mobile application is still there but asks that they install a desktop project as in the attached screen shot. On one of the phones the application had been hanging while in use and when the scout restarted the phone the configurable model was missing. The second phone was functioning well and had no issues.

I have been advised to delete the historical files in the SMART data folder in the phone to clear the space. We were not doing that previously so we had data from mid last year. I am now monitoring the phone for a few days to see if that has sorted out the problem.

Try looking on the phone to see what is using up the storage space. This is a bit different on each Android phone, but it should be something like:

 

Settings>Battery and Device Care>Storage

 

This will show you where the most storage is being used. If the issue is with Apps using storage you should be able to click on “Apps” and see a list of which ones are taking up the most space.

 

Are you taking photos with SMART Mobile? It may be that these are being left on the device and need to be removed.

We’ve been using Samsung A3Core with 16GB storage for about 7 months now. From last month scouts have been getting the attached message and the SMART Mobile app keeps hanging or refusing to work. The only other application on these phones is Whatsapp. Even with removing all data in the phones the issue persists. Anyone else with this phone and issue?

Hi Lizbeth,

 

The device keeps track of old data and logs and this is sent when creating a bug report. When trying to understand problems, it is very helpful to see what happened.

 

In build 320 we did not limit the size of this history, but more recently we do. The quota just means that we keep a certain amount of old data, but at some point when it gets too large, we will clear it.

Hi all,

I have updated the version of SMART Mobile on the website to 385.


This version works with SMART 6.3.

If you load the 385 APK on a device with 320, then Android will upgrade automatically and you will not have to re-install the Configurable Model, I hope that is helpful.

Hi Justin,

I have been monitoring the phones since we reinstalled the configurable model. For the phone that I sent you the bug report, a. at first the app kept saying 'not responding' while on patrol but upon restraining the phone that issue went away b. The phone keeps losing location, this was not a problem previously and has been noted on a second phone as well. 

We had another phone that said storage is full, following your directions I attach herein a screenshot of the space utilised by the app. You can see it is quite a large amount and this is after he has deleted the files in the SMART data folder.

Hi Lizbeth,

 

If you click “Clear data” at the bottom of the screen, this will recover all the space. However, this will also delete your configurable model and everything with it.

Thanks for your email. Is that something we will have to be doing everytime the storage gets used up or does the build 385 sort out the problem?  It’s already costing us getting the configurable model reinstalled in all the phones with this issue as the person responsible for helping with reinstalling is not based in the field where the scouts operate from.

Apologies for the inconvenience on this. We did not think that any device would burn through 10GB of data for backups in such a short time, even if capturing photos.

 

This is not an issue in 385 and above.

Thank you Justin, you’ve been very helpful in helping us figure out what was happening to the phones suddenly. I think we’ll move to build 385 then as that will then sort out the storage issue for us and I hope it also sorts out the sudden location issue as well.
