Great to hear from another “self-starter” in deploying SMART.

Looping in the SMART Community as it is best to start any request with the community.

For deploying SMART Connect, we recommend running in the cloud using Azure hosting – it has a number of advantages including scalability, enhanced security and, in most cases, we can provide this for free. Please let us know if you want to explore this.

If you want to install locally, we are updating our guidance. We can share this with you. If you want to install locally, please let us know if you will be using SMART 7 which is due to go into public release in the next couple of months.

Hi Jonathan,

Is there a limit of size in Gybabyte on my SMART Desktop to be uploaded to the Smart connect?

E. G: If my total SMART Desktop because of data inside is beyond 5 Gybabyte now, could I upload it to connect Without problem I'd I have good internet connexion?

Hi,

I am not sure this is the best place to ask this, but we too are interested in setting up SMART Connect. We are a small foundation in Colombia (Fundacion Biodviersa Colombia) and are using SMART for our reserve (El Silencio) and SMART Connect would help us out a lot.

I read there may be a possibility of setting up SMART connect on Azure hosting and maybe for free? Where can I find more information about thiat? That would work out a lot better for us than setting up a local server.

Saludos Jonathan, si, deseo hacer pruebas en instalarlo en un servidor local con red local también, si me interesa hacer pruebas con smart 7, te cuento como me va con la version 6 en red local..

We’ve tested up 8GB without issues.

For SMART 8 we are planning some improvements to syncing that will make it easier to do incremental/partial syncing – we expect to have details on these in the next 3-6 months.

Hi everyone,

It seems like the installation and the use of SMART connect is interesting everyone, as I am. One of its advantages at this time is to reduce the physical contact between people, and to reduce the data processin/importing time. In order to reduce the cost, we would like to install it on a local server too, and we would like to use Windows aerver or Ubuntu whatever is the best to use. Is there anyone who can advise and guide this please?

Hi Angelo,

I just setup in the last days SMART Connect on a Windows 10 machine and also on a Raspberry Pi running the newest Ubuntu version.

In general I prefer a setup, where the database is not on the same machine as the Tomcat system.

That separation helps securing your data and it's most of the time more performant.

I will provide in the next days a detailed setup guide for this type of setup.
