Phone running out of space

Hello,

We’ve been using Samsung A3Core with 16GB storage for about 7 months now. From last month scouts have been getting the attached message and the SMART Mobile app keeps hanging or refusing to work. The only other application on these phones is Whatsapp. Even with removing all data in the phones the issue persists. Anyone else with this phone and issue?

Hi Lizbeth,

 

Try looking on the phone to see what is using up the storage space. This is a bit different on each Android phone, but it should be something like:

 

Settings>Battery and Device Care>Storage

 

This will show you where the most storage is being used. If the issue is with Apps using storage you should be able to click on “Apps” and see a list of which ones are taking up the most space.

 

Are you taking photos with SMART Mobile? It may be that these are being left on the device and need to be removed.

Dear Richard,

I have been advised to delete the historical files in the SMART data folder in the phone to clear the space. We were not doing that previously so we had data from mid last year. I am now monitoring the phone for a few days to see if that has sorted out the problem.

Hi Richard,

We are using  SMK-build-320-arm32.apk and SMART version 6.  A new issue has now come up with two phones, they have both 'lost' the configurable model. The SMART Mobile application is still there but asks that they install a desktop project as in the attached screen shot. On one of the phones the application had been hanging while in use and when the scout restarted the phone the configurable model was missing. The second phone was functioning well and had no issues.

Could you please send me a bug report from one of the broken devices? At the bottom right of the screen is “Settings”, click on that and then scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the bug report button.

Hi Justin,

Find attached the bug report, this is from the phone that did not have any issues at all before losing the configurable model. Meanwhile, on one of the other phones, even after deleting the files in the SMART data folder there has been little improvement on the storage capacity of that phone despite it having no other apps, data that would fill it up.

This log looks like it from a fresh device, i.e. it does not seem to ever had anything on it. It must have been reset at some point.

 

For the space issue:

  • Hold down the SMART Mobile icon and on the popup, click “App Info”
  • Go to the “Storage” option

 

That will tell us if SMART Mobile is the culprit.

If you want to clean up, then you can click “clear data” and “clear cache”, but note that this will erase the configurable model as well.

 

More recent versions of SMART Mobile keep a quota, so this should not happen moving forward.

Hi Justin,

To my recollection the phone had not been reset as the SMART mobile apk file still remains and one can still access the application, just not the configurable model. I think the historical data in the SMART data had already been deleted, would that give the same impression? I will check the space issue as you suggest, thanks. 

What version of SMART Mobile is this and what is meant by keeping a quota? Is it Ok to download this new version from Playstore and replace the version 320 we have been using?
