Thanks Ryan for noticing I had the incorrect date!   Here is the updated invite, we are riding Sunday, Nov 5!

This is a big ride by any standard.  However, we are building our base miles, so the pace is comfortable yet purposeful with minimal stops so we stay warm.  Route is mostly paved with several long gravel sections, including mud and possible light snow at the highest elevations.  Plan for wet and cold conditions.  Fenders are HIGHY encouraged, for the sake of yourself and more importantly your fellow riding buddies!

Conversational pace, pre-season training camp vibes.  I'll be there, rain or shine.  Will you?

Day/Time: Sunday, 11/5, 9am roll out

Start/End Location: SE Flavel Street MAX Station

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44883349.  There is a small market at the ~22 and ~72 mile points.

Pace: Zone 2. Purposeful on the flats/piano on the climbs.

Equipment: Road or gravel bike; 32mm tires or bigger

No RSVP required, just show up, ride, and make new friends!  Ride is unsanctioned, on open roads, with no official leader.

Hi- I'm noting the RWGPS calls for 45mm vs. 32mm? I'm running 30mm road tires on a Caledonia, way too under bike-y?

Ah, thanks for catching that.  Updated RWGPS to indicate 32mm minimum recommendation for this route.  That said, everyone has their own comfort/ability when it comes to tire choice. If I ran 30mm I'd be much more susceptible to a sidewall cut on this route, but your mileage may vary...

I've ridden the gravel portion of this route fairly recently.  30mm is way skinnier than I would enjoy for some of the steeper/high speed gravel descents.  I was on 55s and those felt very nice to me.  That being said, there's nothing out there that would require the "float" of a wide tire (to my memory), those downhills just might be slower if you are worried about sidewalls/washing out in the gravel at high speed.  I'm also not the bravest nor most gifted bike rider, so keep that in mind as well.  Cheers and enjoy.

memaloose is traditionally ok on road bikes, though I haven't been up there in a few years.

I also rode it in the opposite direction of the RWGPS route, so the nature of the downhills might be different going that way.  Sorry I didn't notice this before I commented earlier.

yeah this direction climbs the steeper more complicated side, which should be better for smaller tires.

some folks did it on road bikes in September.
