It's going to be wet and cold this weekend so we are staying out of the hills and sticking to the flatlands. Riding in a tight group on the flats is much warmer than getting spread out on the hills and descending in the rain!
The route covers all the open roads on Sauvie Island, including adventuring out to the Warrior Rock Lighthouse which is a very slippery, flat, fun, and relatively short trail that is nearly unrideable on slicks... you've been warned!
The route also includes some sneaky trails along the train tracks and out around North Portland... just because the ride is flat doesn't mean it's boring! If everyone is game, we can also do a friendly paceline clinic on the Sauvie Island paved portions. We'll gauge interest for this on the day.
Conversational pace, training camp vibes.
Day/Time: Saturday, 3/2, 9am sharp roll out
Start/End Location: Cyclepath PDX bike shop; 2436 NE MLK Blvd., Portland OR 97212
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45716469. We will all be stopping at the store on Sauvie Island at the ~70 mile mark.
Pace: Endurance ride w/ a little tempo mixed in
Equipment: FENDERS highly encouraged for the sake of your fellow riders as the roads will be wet and we'll be riding in a group! Gravel bike; 42mm knobbies recommended as the trail along the train tracks is chunky and the trail to the lighthouse is slippery mud.
All are welcome! No RSVP required, just show up, ride, and make new friends! Ride is unsanctioned, on open roads, with no official leader.
