Hax festival weekend is almost here folks.
Here's your complete, detailed guide to the weekend.
The website has sections for whatever you're interested in. That's
faster than reading this mega email.

---------
Let's acknowledge our sponsors. GlitchSecure is our first ever gold
level cash sponsor. Please thank Jade aka GlitchWitch if you run into
them.
In-kind sponsors include Les.net (roof top internet), Daily Grind
Coffee (dinner), and you the members for all the awesome you bring
into this.
-------------
Friday we're doors open at 6:30pm for another movie night. We're going
to use a "Thor's binary choice" format. Our man will present a title.
The audience must say yes or no without fully understanding the
consequences of no. If the answer is no, there's no going back, and
the next option will be less mainstream, more fringy, more weird, more
bad or otherwise more out there! Thor has quite the rabbit hole to
take you down if you dare to keep saying "no".
We'll start by putting forward the acclaimed, mainstream option The
Imitation Game, the story of Alan Turing and co cracking the Enigma.
Yes or no? Don't count on seeing it unless you bring a lot of friends
to cheer for "yes!".
There's also a Jets visiting game, which still brings people downtown
for a viewing party inside the arena. I've got a TV on site that will
be tuning that in over the air in the classroom, no volume.
----------
Saturday morning we're doors open at 10am. I kick off the talks at
10:15 with "Bitcoin hardware wallet tricks for the no-coiner".
11:30am Alex Weber has an introduction to amateur radio.
12:45pm Siu has An old lady's guide to PC gaming on a budget
1:30pm or so we'll have a catered lunch.
The afternoon is kicked off by Aaron at 2:15 "Freely Developing for
Retro: Gameboy Game Creation with GB Studio"
3:30pm Dave will talk about the new sound and light system
4:45pm David Berman will re-present a talk previously seen at FOSDEM,
Controlling Reykjavík's Street Lights
Following talks we'll have our dry reception with DJ BettyRumbles
playing some pre-baked sets. Fire up all the video game and board game
sessions. Daily Grind Coffee is bringing us sandwiches! I'll have some
additional bottled soda and snacks for free, but all canned drinks on
site will still be for sale. That includes some forgotten canned
mocktails!
---------
There's more!
I'm bringing a few exhibits:
* I mentioned that we have an ATSC TV... wait until you see the antenna!
* I have a real radio addiction, see the discord channel. On display
will be a CB radio hooked up to a software defined receiver as a
spectrum analyzer. There will be attenuators!
* I'll bring an old Lego set, the XT Starship, complete with blinky
lights. The build is slightly adapted for missing pieces. Your
attempts to make something else are welcome!
Other exhibits:
* The 3D printers seem to always be up to something during Skullspace
events. Some kind of space age face in progress is staring me down
right now!
* Remember the Hacker Jeopardy Easy buttons from years ago? The
hardware has been loaned out, so someone might do something totally
new with that!
--------
And there's workshops:
Saturday at 3:30pm Aaron has a follow-up to his talk with more gameboy
sound stuff. I've brought in a 2x headphone amplifier.
Sunday at 2pm I play radio some more. All manner of ham radios and
friends will get subjected to spectrum analysis. Have you ever heard
what single side band sounds like out of tune?
------
And what about table-top gaming?
Saturday afternoon expect to see Subway Squeeze with Sara (2:30pm)
and I also expect to have some folks doing Magic The Gathering
commander format at some point that aft.
On Sunday expect to run into Stephan and co hosting chess. A saturday
night appearance is a maybe!
----------
There can be a whole lot more chill workshops, exhibits and table-top
gaming and project work than I've described here. There's enough room
and tables in our hackerspace workshop and lounge to just make things
happen, scheduled or not! Reaching out by email mark AT parit DOT ca
in advance would be great and could earn you an honourium.
-------------
Don't let me forget to mention that Sunday at 1pm kicks off with a
music jam. I'll bring a few instruments. Bring a musician!
We'll also order some pizza.
Sunday will also be a super big smash bro day at the space with folks
encouraged to arrive at 2:30.
https://www.start.gg/tournament/skullspace-smash-series-44-at-hax-ft-mystery-bracket/details
There's going to be a whole bunch of fun, free Smash Bro events (see
the link) and the very competitive Ultimate Singles component at the
very end costs $5.
Potentially there will be a Jets home game 7 Sunday aft with extra
demand on parking due to the street party. If that game ends up
happening, consider alternative transportation options or if you must
go for the parked car and walk-a-bunch option, go quite a bit
north-west down Notre Dame and peek at the side streets to the north.
That's a lot of parking spots before you end up at Isabel!
----------
A long story short, there is something for everybody this weekend,
including choose your own hackerspace adventure.
We can toss advertisements as much as we want, but it's word of mouth
that will truly make this a blast. Not too late to talk it up.
Happy Hacking
