First organizing meeting for Hax 7.0 (2026)

The Hax festival is our annual celebration of our hackerspace and
broad hacker culture. This weekend long event puts the broad
experience of our space into an entire weekend.

One highlight is having lots of talks and workshops, the complete
history of which is here:
https://hax.skullspace.ca/talkshistory.html

Tomorrow (Tuesday), at 7pm is our first planning meeting. This will be
in person at the space, a hybrid video conference is not planned
unless someone asks to be brought in that way.

Top agenda item will be selecting a new organizing committee chair for
this edition. This job entails facilitating the meetings, keeping a
coherent view of the festival as a whole, being the primary point of
contact, introducing speakers, and being the decider of last resort if
there is a lack of consensus on the organizing committee.

I will probably still serve as a deputy chair, retaining my emphasis
on booking talks, exhibits and workshops and also stepping in to chair
meetings if the new chair is absent.

Other agenda items for the first meeting:

1. Picking a weekend. Options:
- May 1-3
- May 15-17 (Victoria Day Long weekend)
- May 22-24
- May 29-31
- Another month like April, not ideal for post-secondary students

2. Setting a meeting schedule for the months ahead (more frequent as
event weekend approaches)

3. Dance fundraiser same weekend or not? Friday night timing means
most of our best people are unavailable Saturday day time.

4. Chill Sunday options

5. Pursuit of sponsors

6. Any other new business

Some folks may be attending another meeting at 7:30pm so we may have
to table decisions on some topics.
