New version of NoSketch Engine (manatee ​2.225.8 ​/ bonito 5.71.9 / gdex 4.13.2 / crystal 2.165.2)

Dear all,

A new version of NoSketch Engine is now available at https://nlp.fi.muni.cz/trac/noske.

Apart from many minor improvements and bug fixes, the new version of NoSketch Engine brings you:

• timeline function which extends the word list and concordance tool. It provides a graph of word usage across time. Similarly to the Trends feature, the corpus data need to be timestamped, i.e. containing metadata such as year, month, etc.
• complete and updated German localization and incomplete (for now) Chinese, Polish, and Serbian (Cyrillic) localization

You can try using demo installations of the most up-to-date noSkE version:

• https://no.sketchengine.co.uk/crystal (without authentication)
• https://no.sketchengine.co.uk/crystal-auth (with authentication, use test/t for login).
• https://no.sketchengine.co.uk/crystal-registration/ (with authentication and user registration)

 
Last but not least, if you cannot find your installation on this map or the provided information is outdated, please let us know so that we can make a necessary update.

Dear Michal, 

that's great news. 
I am really looking forward to see the new timeline functionality - but could not spot it  anywhere in the NoSke-GUI? 
I tried to set  DIACHRONIC "doc.year"  in the registry file but to no avail.  

Where did I miss out?

Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in the new timeline functionality. I apologize for any confusion due to missing more details in the previous email.

First, after careful consideration, we have decided to integrate the Trends feature into NoSketch Engine. This entails preserving the Trends button on the Dashboard; however, enabling this feature necessitates the backend computation of trends (mktrends). Please note that implementing these changes requires adjustments in both code and infrastructure, and thus we anticipate its availability later this spring.

As to Timelines, you can utilize this tool by incorporating the following syntax into your corpus configuration:

DIACHRONIC "structure.attribute" (e.g., DIACHRONIC "doc.year")

This allows you to generate timelines without requiring any pre-computation. The Timeline results will be computed on the front end when you run the tool. Timelines are available on the Concordance result page via a separate button and the Wordlist result page via View options.

Last but not least, we have detected some discrepancies in computing timelines. We are planning to release a new version of NoSketch Engine.
