DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, OR ANYWHERE ELSE – words so important I'm whipping out the bold tag, all-caps, and making it the literal first words. Having said that . . .
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to use mercury as the foundation of audio cables? No? Me neither. But now that I've seen this video from YouTube channel "pierogi engineering," I can't stop thinking about it. And, yes, the premise is exactly what it sounds like: a boatload of mercury syringed in plastic tubes, used as audio cables.
Spoiler alert: They work fine.
Watching this, though, I couldn't help but feel like I was seeing some weird "steampunk" alternate universe – or something too weird and dangerous for even a steampunk setting to consider.
Again, there's no reason to do this, and even watching the video made me lock my jaw for several long minutes. However, if the concept of "mercury-filled tubes" tickles some weird mad-scientist part of your imagination, then hopefully it will serve your games well. Just make sure those ideas stay entirely in your imagination.
