Where Yours Truly lives, May brings warm weather – and with it, leaves and flowers, bugs to eat the plants, and birds to eat the bugs (we have so many swallows this year!). It seems to fly past quickly, leaving us at the doorstep of summer. I'll even own up to having worked a little less hard in order to spend a little more time outdoors. Nevertheless, GURPS happened.
May brought a long-awaited hardcover and saw two more GURPS 2021 PDF Challenge items debut on Warehouse 23 (for those who missed the Kickstarter).
Girl Genius Sourcebook and Roleplaying Game (May 3, 2022; Hardback)
The world of Phil and Kaja Foglio's Girl Genius comics as a complete, standalone game (you do not need the GURPS Basic Set). Compiled with input from the creators, this tome not only summarizes the story so far, but also reveals secrets and includes an all-new eight-page comic! And everything is lavishly illustrated in color . . . yes, by the Foglios themselves. This is a must-have for Girl Genius fans, and a beautiful addition to the collection of any GURPS devotee.
GURPS Infinite Worlds: The Osiris Worlds (May 5, 2022; PDF)
Many gamers find that ancient Egypt has a certain je ne sais quoi – and not only for historical gaming. Religious beliefs that almost casually embrace necromancy, massive monuments that invite theories about alien assistance, and undeniably cool imagery and iconography make it attractive in general. These three timelines for GURPS Infinite Worlds dig into several of the . . . stranger possibilities.
GURPS Renaissance Venice: Spies of Venice (May 19, 2022; PDF)
Venezia wielded great power during the Renaissance, one cornerstone of which was an exceptional focus on diplomacy and its shadow, espionage. This supplement reveals the methods of the city-state's secret agents. It's all but necessary for a GURPS Hot Spots: Renaissance Venice campaign (unless for some incomprehensible reason it features no spies), and a great source of ideas for any game of low-tech intrigue.
Everything Old Is New Again Department
GURPS on Demand was absolutely hopping as well: You can now get the Discworld Roleplaying Game and GURPS Discworld Also for GURPS Third Edition, and GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Setting: Caverntown and GURPS Template Toolkit 1: Characters for GURPS Fourth Edition. If you prefer, you can get all of these on DriveThruRPG instead.
But wait, there's more! At least, there will be, even if the pace isn't always lightning-fast. Here is my monthly list of insider guesses. The way the world has been lately, please understand that the only promise here is, "We will publish this eventually."
Eight other projects I know of are so far out or uncertain that I don't feel comfortable sharing at this time. But hey, I update the GURPS thread in my blog every Friday, so who knows? I might leak something between now and the end of June.
Gaming Ballistic
It may be old news to some of you, but for those who missed it: Our good friends Gaming Ballistic have a shiny new store where you can buy Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game goodies (among many other things).
Editing remains backlogged, so we're being cautious about encouraging proposals. We're not saying, "Don't send them!", but we are being picky about ensuring that would-be writers have read the Submission Guidelines, GURPS formatting guide, and GURPS WYSIWYG template. If that's you, please note that we're being strict about sticking to the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated February 11, 2022) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated May 2, 2022), too.
