Everything's Gone Orange

GURPS Infinite Worlds: Worlds of Atomic HorrorYour faithful GURPS Line Editor lives in what some call the Great White North. Right now, though, the North is orange: the color of the leaves on the trees, of the Halloween jack-o'-lanterns, and, here in la ville de Montréal, of the endless road cones and detour signs. White will arrive soon enough – we've already had a touch of snow to warn us. But you're here to learn what will arrive for GURPS.

Recent Releases

October brought a GURPS supplement that might be timely for Halloween, depending on whether you find extraterrestrial invaders, giant insects, and atomic bombs scary:

GURPS Infinite Worlds: Worlds of Atomic Horror (October 19, 2023; PDF)

The mad science of GURPS Atomic Horror meets the marginally less mad science of GURPS Infinite Worlds, answering the question, "What if the future as imagined in 1950s and 1960s science fiction had come to be?" The vision was superficially hopeful – often even utopian (where's my jet car?) – yet included technology that threatened to change humanity (not always for the better) or outright supplant it, and the menace of monsters ranging from subterranean horrors, through mutants created by Science! and The Bomb, to things from the stars. This volume examines the historical origins of this outlook, offers timelines illustrating where it might have led, and tosses in a healthy (?) dose of stats for wild gadgets and otherworldly visitors.

Upcoming Plans

What of the future of GURPS as imagined in late 2023? I have some ideas of how that might look. The details may mutate, but that's just a minor complication! What could possibly go wrong?

  • GURPS Tactical Shooting: Extreme Conditions, by Hans-Christian Vortisch, got art, went through production, and is now in production review. It's looking promising for November.
  • GURPS Template Toolkit: Spirits, by Rory Fansler, moved into editing.
  • The first draft of GURPS Loadouts: Starship Crew remains with Paul Stefko for revision.
  • The first draft of GURPS Meta-Tech, by Christopher Rice, entered editorial review.
  • First drafts of GURPS Infinite Worlds: Worlds of Atlantropa (by Joshua Kilburn) and GURPS Monster Hunters Adventure: The Face of Fire (by J. Edward Tremlett and Christopher Rice) await editorial review.

A total of 10 Sekrit Projekts have to remain hidden in the shadows for the moment, and we continue to review proposals for others. Want more crazed speculation? See the GURPS thread in my blog, updated on Fridays.

I'll remind people again that we presently want rules-light ("fluffy") content more than the rules-heavy ("crunchy") kind. So, we're favoring such queries – and also those where it's clear that the potential author has read our Freelancer FAQ and Submission Guidelines, learned the GURPS formatting guide and GURPS WYSIWYG template, and picked an idea from the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated August 15, 2023) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated August 15, 2023). Thanks in advance for understanding!
