. . . is half of 2026. You know, because the end of June marks the year being half over? Okay, it was probably funnier in my mind – though July 1013 is when Sweyn Forkbeard showed up to give Æthelred the Unready a hard time, so there's that. Returning to this millennium, let's talk about GURPS.
June brought a new release:
GURPS Magical Styles: Modern Magic (June 25, 2026; PDF)
GURPS Thaumatology: Magical Styles is a toolkit for adapting a magic system that was developed for low-tech, high-magic fantasy (originally, for Yrth) to other genres, settings, and views of the supernatural. Modern Magic is a set of five thaumatological approaches that could exist in a world that looks very much like today's without rendering it unrecognizable: the Librarian's Art for the bookish, Magical Demagoguery for the manipulative, Punk Magic for the chaotic, Rock and Roll Magic for the wild, and Trenchcoat Magic for the investigative. These come with new Magic Perks, new spells, and plenty of advice.
GURPS Ring of Fire Progress
The Backerkit campaign for GURPS Ring of Fire is winding down as I write this. More than 1,000 backers have brought it past the 550% mark and removed all doubts about success. Thank you!
With the complication of printing the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised and crowdfunding GURPS Ring of Fire, the 2026 schedule has seen a lot of rearrangement. Here is what the future looks like going into the second half of the year. Anything with a date on it is reasonably solid; everything else is subject to the fickle forces of fate.
There are now 5 Sekrit Projekts that aren't far enough along to name at this time. That's up one from last month because we recently signed a contract. If I decide to drop hints about these, it will be in the GURPS thread in my DreamWidth, updated Fridays. That's also the place to learn about developments on the projects listed above.
It looks like we might need a couple of items for late 2027. That isn't a promise, but simply what naive math suggests. Our focus is still on 12- and 21-page, rules-light supplements inspired by the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated May 4, 2026) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated May 4, 2026), unless you are a longtime freelancer with many SJ Games publications to your credit. As ever, please read the Freelancer FAQ, Submission Guidelines, GURPS formatting guide, and GURPS WYSIWYG template before sending us anything. Thank you for your diligence!
