Welcome To Year 40

GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 24: Finer Points

GURPS First Edition was launched at Origins in 1986. The con took place July 3-6 (in LA, back when Origins moved around) – meaning that GURPS's official 40th birthday isn't until the summer – but 2026 is a bona fide milestone that merits mention in my first monthly roundup of the year. Now back to the present . . .

Recent Releases

January got straight to the point with a long-anticipated GURPS supplement:

GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 24: Finer Points (January 22, 2026; PDF)

Say what you will about hack 'n' slash, it knows exactly what it is. In fact, it's often downright "meta," blurring the line between game-table and in-world reality (words I wouldn't have dared write in 1986, as I'd have been accused of summoning demons). Especially important is characters being aware of details intended for players – and in GURPS, such information includes character points. This volume offers a variety of in-world definitions for points; describes spells, incantations, and power-ups for measuring points; gives players and their characters ways to spend points to succeed on adventures (including several new options not found in GURPS Power-Ups 5: Impulse Buys); provides advice on extending that capability to bosses and important minions (who also get a power-level system); looks at wishes that bestow points, and monstrous drains that steal them; and introduces a profession that's an expert in all of the above (with unique abilities and a reimagination of Weirdness Magnet).

GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised Progress

The GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised is still in the early stages of the process of vetting proofs, printing, shipping, and distribution. The current ETA is April 2026. The FAQ is live now, though, and I intend to submit revisions about once a month until the book hits shops.

Upcoming Plans

As soon as we resumed work after our winter break, we jumped into moving GURPS projects along in order to honor our vow to get more out the door in 2026. As ever, the exact order is subject to change due to the Fickle Forces of Fate described in Finer Points . . . except that these plans are more than just fantasy.

There are also 5 Sekrit Projekts in various stages of compilation, design, writing, etc. that do not have ETAs or slots in queues. The place to look for movement on those – and on anything named above – is in the GURPS thread in my DreamWidth, updated Fridays.

With a relatively dense schedule out into early 2027, we are going to treat all queries as being for mid-2027 at soonest, which means that we cannot in good faith promise to address them quickly in early 2026 or even mid-2026. Still, if a title on the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated November 3, 2025) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated November 3, 2025) interests you, we'll still look at proposals for rules-light, 12- or 21-page items. Given the huge lead time, we are going to be selective, privileging writers who clearly know the rules laid out in the Freelancer FAQ, Submission Guidelines, GURPS formatting guide, and GURPS WYSIWYG template.
