Thank goodness for the leap year! (Not just any year, either, but one that factorizes as 2×2×2×11×23. Yes, 23.) It gave us an extra Thursday, which as you probably know is "release day" for GURPS.
February stretched to let us bring you a new GURPS supplement:
GURPS Template Toolkit 4: Spirits (February 29, 2024; PDF)
Many cultures, and a lot of speculative fiction, identify certain entities as "spirits": angels, demons, djinn, elementals, genii loci, ghosts, nymphs, totems, and countless others, ranging from vague presences on up to true gods ruling over vast dominions. The lines often blur – one might almost suspect that the spirits prefer things that way! A game doesn't always need stats for these beings, but when it does, it can be a lot of work to get them just right. This guide is like a specialized version of GURPS Template Toolkit 2: Races intended to help you with that. It includes individual abilities, new powers, and a system of stackable templates (corresponding to several overlapping typologies) that let you create any kind of spirit, however weird. Guidelines on spirit magic and spirit realms complete the picture.
Meanwhile, work continues on the rest of what we have planned for 2024 (and a bit beyond). As ever, I'm going to be vague and make few promises, because I lack the power to consult with shades from the future.
Beyond all that are 13 Sekrit Projekts, including 3 relatively recent additions. All are either very early in the creative process or on hold for various reasons we're working hard to address, so I cannot provide details right now. Like a spirit, I can be fickle, and might reveal more in the GURPS thread in my blog, updated Fridays.
Saethor's Bane
As I write this, there's a little over a week left to back Saethor's Bane, from Gaming Ballistic. This is the first-ever solo adventure for the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game, so its performance will establish exactly how marketable such things are, with all that implies for the future. Please help make it a success!
Not much has changed here: We're moving rules-heavy ("crunchy") content along to make room for the rules-light ("fluffy") kind, which should allow us to quicken the pace of the release schedule. If that appeals to you, review our Freelancer FAQ, Submission Guidelines, GURPS formatting guide, and GURPS WYSIWYG template; pick something from the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated November 10, 2023) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated November 10, 2023); and shoot us a query. As you can see from my mention of 3 additions to the docket, we're definitely open for business in this regard. Good luck!
