GURPS Gun Stats

This installment is almost a week early because we're approaching (American) Thanksgiving, and I want to get the news out before November 27-30, when SJ Games will be closed. As the whole point of the holiday is to give thanks, please accept my thanks for your ongoing support of GURPS – especially through slow periods caused by events like a pandemic and a trade war. Things have picked up recently, and in fact we got something out the door last week to avoid a collision with the fall break . . .

Recent Releases

November brought a long-anticipated GURPS supplement:

GURPS Gun Stats (November 20, 2025; PDF)

There's no shortage of guns in GURPS . . . indeed, people like to quip that GURPS High-Tech is mostly a big book of guns, and then there are its follow-up volumes, not to mention GURPS Gun Fu, GURPS Tactical Shooting, and countless other examples. Eric Lensherr had it right: "Humans and their guns." Yet there are more firearms in the world than we could ever find room to put in print. What Gun Stats does is provide a procedure for converting real-world data (from reference works, manufacturers, and actual hands-on measurements) into stats compatible with existing ones. It isn't a design system, but it is systematic – and it does provide guidelines that a clever person could use to make things up, in part or from whole cloth.

GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised Progress

The GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised announcement triggered much interest and discussion! We worked hard on the project over the past month, and will be meeting shortly after I post this update for a final check before sending the files to the printer. I cannot share dates or prices, but I can say that Marketing has created ads with that information, so we're well past guesswork. I can also confirm that it will be a unified 592-page tome (not two books), laid out in two columns instead of three; that it will have informative rules tips in place of filler quotes, as well as choice art pulled from 40 years of GURPS; that we eliminated overlapping endpapers and added 27 pages of new rules; that we did a light edit for errata and sensitivity; that none of the previous steps damaged compatibility by altering page references or existing rules; and that there will be a full-color hardback with a distinctive new cover.

Upcoming Plans

Our 2026 schedule (and even part of the 2027 one) is now firm, though I cannot simply dump it here with dates until I get permission. Instead, I'll give you an idea of where things are in our process.

The Sekrit Projekt count remains at 6: a first draft that I reviewed and sent to the author for revisions, two manuscripts in the writing stage, and three projects that exist as contracts but that's all. See the GURPS thread in my DreamWidth each Friday for more on these or indeed on anything mentioned here.

With everything from today through to early 2027 booked, we cannot guarantee action on new queries. But we aren't shooting down the possibility. Do the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated November 3, 2025) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated November 3, 2025) inspire you to write a rules-light, 12- or 21-page item? Well, use the available time to check out the Freelancer FAQ, Submission Guidelines, GURPS formatting guide, and GURPS WYSIWYG template, and then to write a very convincing proposal. You just never know!
