Ah, July – the month of my birth and the month when SJ Games picked up my contract! Has it really been 26 years? Yes, the years do pass, each month bringing new things for GURPS. This month was no exception.
July was ludicrously busy for GURPS.
GURPS 2021 PDF Challenge (PDFs)
Thanks to 2,153 backers who pledged $38,439, all 12 PDFs were unlocked. These aren't strictly speaking released yet, but BackerKit is chugging along, with a deadline of August 9, 2021. Close to that date, the new PDFs will be delivered. The titles, for those who missed them:
GURPS Boardroom and Curia: The Sospital Group (PDF)
We snuck this one into BackerKit for the GURPS 2021 PDF Challenge. Here's the official blurb:
Technology marches on, bringing deadlier weapons and poisons, more-resistant microbes, and such incidentals as taller buildings to fall from and faster cars to crash. But medicine advances as well, increasing the odds of surviving these and many other fates. It can sometimes achieve results that seem like science fiction, even magic – if you can afford treatment.
GURPS Boardroom and Curia: The Sospital Group takes a close look at a global consortium of private clinics, hospitals, and research labs that offer the best care possible, for a price. It provides GURPS Boardroom and Curia stats for its eponymous organization, which it presents as a potential employer for scientists and medical professionals, as a lifesaver for well-heeled heroes in risky jobs, and as a possible villain. While nominally meant for the modern world as seen in GURPS Action, there are . . . other options, not all of them healthy.
When you're advancing science in private, ignoring national borders, and catering to the wealthy, little things like ethics can become casualties . . .
Again, to get it, you must have backed the GURPS 2021 PDF Challenge. Then you can add it in BackerKit. It will eventually turn up on this product page – which doesn't yet exist – but I cannot say when. (How to Be a GURPS GM: Combat Encounters is in a similar situation.)
Everything Old Is New Again Department
Meanwhile, GURPS on Demand rolled out GURPS Conan: Beyond Thunder River, GURPS Space, and GURPS SWAT – all for Third Edition. We also expanded our DriveThruRPG lineup, adding GURPS Goblins and GURPS Grimoire for Third Edition, and GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Career Guide, GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Encounters 2: The Room, GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Treasures 4: Mixed Blessings, and GURPS Magic: The Least of Spells for Fourth Edition. (Just a reminder: Third Edition material needs a little adaptation to work with Fourth Edition.)
While all of that was a lot of work, we continued to think of the future. Here are all the hints that I'm cleared to give. They come with my usual disclaimer: Though informed guesses, they are guesses all the same, and I cannot provide even the vaguest answer to "When?" or "In what order?"
I have eight other entries in my files, but it's too early to say more about those . . . well, okay, I'll note that two are new contracts as of July, and yes, I've been writing again. For leaks and revelations between now and the end of next month, check out the GURPS thread in my blog, updated Fridays.
We continue to accept queries and proposals, but I cannot promise rapid turnaround. One look at this report should be enough to explain why our editorial resources are stretched a little thin right now! I'd advise would-be writers to visit the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated May 3, 2021) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated May 3, 2021) to learn what we're actually looking for. Then spend time with the Submission Guidelines, GURPS formatting guide, and GURPS WYSIWYG template getting that proposal perfect.
