Coming Soon: Autumn!

As I write this from my secret lair in the Northern Hemisphere, I cannot help but notice a definite coolness in the air – and the trees turning yellow outside my window. It's that time again! Setting aside my inexplicable Canadian fascination with red maple leaves, I do love autumn. So, what's happening with GURPS as we head into the season of apples and pumpkins?GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Career Guide

Recent Releases

August came with one new release for GURPS.

GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Career Guide (August 27, 2020; PDF)

A career in killing monsters and taking their stuff is doomed to be short if you lack focus! It's wise to weigh all your options before you choose a specialty, though. The catch is that there are nearly 50 professions strewn across 36 GURPS Dungeon Fantasy supplements and 122 Pyramid issues. The Career Guide aims to simplify the search by listing them all, briefly describing them, and indexing their main and variant templates, lenses, special abilities, and much more.

Everything Old Is New Again Department

For GURPS on Demand, August brought two reprints of GURPS Third Edition material – GURPS Old West and GURPS Places of Mystery – as well as GURPS Space for GURPS Fourth Edition.

Upcoming Plans

Despite your faithful servant here taking a week off, we made good progress in August. As ever, I can tell you where items are in our workflow, and often mention titles and authors, but not provide firm dates. In the current global climate, scheduling something that isn't essentially done is all but impossible.

  • The GURPS Combat Cards have started going out to Kickstarter backers! I should be reporting them in the section above shortly.
  • A short GURPS Dungeon Fantasy volume by Yours Truly is in production, and just waiting on us to finalize the art.
  • The Girl Genius Sourcebook and Roleplaying Game lingers in production, where it's likely to stay for a while because it's big.
  • The short work from David Pulver that I've refused to name a few times remains in production, too.
  • I have (just barely!) started editing the final draft of Christopher Rice's GURPS Realm Management.
  • GURPS Furries, by Bill Stoddard, is out of playtesting and in house as a final draft, queued for editing.
  • A GURPS Hot Spots-series manuscript from Randy Huegele is next up for playtesting. Keep your eyes peeled for the call for playtesters.
  • First drafts from James Amaral & Joshua Lopez (for the GURPS Infinite Worlds series), Alden Loveshade (no hints yet!), Christopher Rice (for the GURPS Dungeon Fantasy series), and Carolyn Stein & Steve Stein (for the GURPS Vehicles series) have all been reviewed and returned to the authors for revisions.
  • A short first draft from Matt Riggsby (again, no hints for now!) still awaits review.

There's also a project that has passed the first-draft stage but been put on hold, and four more in the writing process. Want more clues? Newer news? Follow the GURPS thread in my blog, updated Fridays.

My advice to would-be writers until the end of 2020 is this: Read our Submission Guidelines. Study the GURPS formatting guide and GURPS WYSIWYG template. Peruse the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List (updated August 4, 2020) and Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS (updated August 4, 2020) to discover our needs – and yes, off-list is off-limits for the time being. Then take the time to write a really great query letter.
