This afternoon Congress dealt our solar movement a setback by passing this budget bill. I won't sugarcoat this disappointing outcome. But the sun will keep shining in Indiana. And I'm confident that we'll come back stronger.
I'm confident because of the inspiring actions that so many of you have taken over the past few months to make your voices heard. Thousands of Hoosiers around the state joined together to call on Congress to protect fair solar policies. Many of you took meaningful action for the first time. You delivered thousands of emails, phone calls, and postcards. You had dozens of meetings with legislators and staff in district offices and on Capitol Hill.
You showed that Indiana's solar movement is full of leaders. That we are powerful. And that we will not be denied despite this temporary setback.
Thank you to each and everyone one of you who fought with us every step of the way. We'll be sharing more in the coming weeks about what the full impacts of this horrible bill will be. But we'll also continue to build the future we all want to see--a future where our energy system is clean, affordable, and equitable, with rooftop solar at the cornerstone.
Onward!
Zach

Hi Zach,
It’s still a matter of when, not if, rooftop solar will be at the cornerstone of our energy system. Unfortunately, Congress passed a short-sighted and reckless budget that repeals tax credits for solar homeowners at the end of the year. This will put solar out of reach for many families, make electricity more expensive for everyone, and kill hundreds of thousands of jobs.
While this is not the outcome we wanted, it could have been worse. We beat back an outrageous solar tax that snuck into the bill at the last minute. This is thanks to the tens of thousands of solar supporters like you who contacted lawmakers and made your voices heard. We are grateful. |
What this means if you’re trying to go solar |
Any system that is paid for this calendar year will be eligible for the 30% tax credit. Keep this in mind as you think about going solar this year. We recommend consulting with a tax professional as you make your solar plans. |
We are committed to turn this short-term loss into long-term victory. You can make that happen.
After a disappointing vote like this, it’s important to thank lawmakers who supported our solar rights and to tell anti-solar officials that their constituents are watching and want them to do better. Please take a moment to send a personalized message. We’ve made it easy. Just add your personal story as to why you care about solar energy. And stay tuned for more guidance on the impact of the bill. |
