Hello everyone,
My name is Victor Xue, and I am a PhD student at Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. I am currently conducting an IRB-approved research study (IRB #28922) on household electrification and clean energy technology adoption.
I am seeking homeowners in the Bloomington area who have adopted three or more electrified or energy-efficient technologies, with at least one high-impact electrification system. The goal of this study is to understand how these technologies are adopted over time, specifically, the order in which households adopt them and the motivations and considerations at each adoption decision.
High-impact technologies (at least one required):
Rooftop solar panels
Heat pump for space heating and/or cooling
Electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV)
Home battery storage system
Electric or heat-pump water heater
Additional eligible technologies include:
Home EV charging system
Electric stove or induction cooktop
Smart thermostat (e.g., Nest, Ecobee)
High-efficiency dishwasher
Dehumidifier
Electric yard equipment (e.g., mower, trimmer)
Participation involves a one-on-one Zoom interview lasting no more than 30 minutes. No preparation is required. I’m interested in your personal adoption journey, including what prompted each decision, what made it easier or harder, and how earlier choices shaped later ones. As a thank-you for your time, participants will receive a $30 Visa gift card.
