Good evening,

As you have likely heard, today the Senate passed their version of the budget bill by 51-50, with the Vice President casting the deciding vote.
❌ Unfortunately, the bill repeals the 25D residential solar and battery 30% tax credit - as well as all other consumer-facing ITCs - by the end of 2025. An amendment to extend 25D for another year failed 52-48.
There were some victories for solar compared to the version of the bill that was debated over the weekend, including:
✅ The proposed solar excise tax was withdrawn
✅ It delays implementation of burdensome anti-Chinese component restrictions (FEOC) until the end of the calendar year
✅ It allows projects to access the 48E clean energy tax credit if they commence construction within one year of enactment (after that, projects must be placed in service by the end of 2027 to qualify for the credits.).
Those last minute fixes WOULD NOT have happened without the strong mobilization of the solar movement - including Hoosier solar supporters like you from all over the state.

It's not over yet.

The bill now goes back to the U.S. House, with a vote expected tomorrow or Thursday. Only four Republican House members are needed to defeat it. That means there's still time to go to SaveSolar.org and tell your Representative to vote no on this harmful and destructive bill that will raise energy costs, pollute our air and water, and put thousands of solar jobs at risk in our state!

Thank you to everyone who has taken action with us so far. We're in this fight together.

Onward,

Zach

P.S. I also wanted to forward SUN's latest statement to our members below

The fight isn't over yet.

Hi Zach,

Today the Senate voted to end the 30% solar tax credit. Phasing out the tax credit would result in raising every American’s electric bills, increase the cost of going solar, and put the entire solar energy industry at risk.

Rooftop solar energy lowers energy costs for solar owners and non-solar owners alike. Tax credits are a smart investment that have helped millions of American families and small businesses take control of where their energy comes from while creating hundreds of thousands of good jobs.

This fight isn’t over yet.

Despite our disappointment at today’s vote, we remain committed to fighting for solar energy and supporting the solar industry. Tell your representative to oppose a budget without these important credits.

We need you to join us in the fight to save solar. Contact your representative today. Urge them to save solar for families and our future.

Sincerely,

Anya Schoolman
