Some definitions of renewable energy include nuclear, considered a low-carbon, reliable energy source, often grouped with clean energy due to its low greenhouse gas emissions.
The reactors don't produce renewable energy because they use finite uranium fuel that has no safe process for storing and recycling its highly toxic waste products.

93 commercial nuclear reactors are operating in the United States at 55 locations in 28 states. Some were built in the 1970s. More may be coming to sites near you.

Indeed, the State of Indiana under the current Braun Administration is working very hard to promote Indiana as a preferred location for new nuclear plants, notably the variant known as "small modular reactors" or SMRs.  See esp. these links:

As you correctly point out, "small modular reactors" do NOT solve the heretofore intractable problems associated with safe storage of high-level nuclear waste exposure to which is lethal for hundreds of thousands of years, the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel,  the proliferation of nuclear materials which can readily become nuclear weapons, or the susceptibility of nuclear projects (including SMRs) to huge cost overruns.  See, e.g.,
