I am so sorry that you had to go through this. But I am so proud of you for doing it.
I believe that Brendan was the first to face this problem several years ago when he was hoping to get help from Kim Stephenson. But it never got completed in this is the result.

Hello Finance Committee Members,
I have spent roughly 6 hours over yesterday and today on the phone or on hold with the IRS. After talking to multiple representatives in the balance owed department, it seems that our balance of $3,556.85 is due to the daily delinquency penalty for missing the 990 tax form filing deadline of January 15, 2016. The representative told me, while looking at our account, that she does not understand why we owed that amount since it showed our filing was received on the due date of January 15, 2016. The representative referred/transferred me to the business specialty unit to discuss possible abatement, where the wait time was 60+ minutes, and my call dropped both today and yesterday around the hour and a half mark. I was able to put our account on hold to discuss the abatement, but they were not very clear about what the hold would do for us. I will say I was flying relatively blind on these calls and think we would be better off with someone experienced in this work, especially when dealing with the IRS abatement. Feel free to reach out with any questions regarding the phone calls.
