Dear all

Having just changed my Dimplex free e for a different diverter, the free e is now surplus to requirements. If anyone is interested in it, please message me, any reasonable offer accepted.

The sender unit has now got a mains plug and it comes with approx 3m of comms cable from ct to sender.

Regards

Oxford PV are a genuine company. Been following their news stories for a while.

They bought an old Bosch PV factory in Germany, and partnered with Switzerland's Meyer Berger to manufacture these cells.

The silicon uses one part of the spectrum; perovskite another.

Perovskite crystals are unstable; Oxford PV found a way to stabilise them.

They could change the viability of rooftop solar.

They did let slip that they plan for silicon + perovskite hitting 30% efficiency, but the endgame is all-perovskite at higher efficiency, lower cost and weight than silicon + perovskite.

One to keep an eye on...

Hi Matthew

Obviously it's in working order or you wouldn't be selling it. That raises the question - Why change and what have you fitted?
Personally not interested in buying as we already have a Solar I-Boost which we're very happy with.

Cheers,

John Haynes

Hi John.

i've  changed it to the I boost mainly for the data that can be interrogated, but also because it runs with a 100W buffer to protect it against exporting when there are sudden changes in conditions.   I'm very impressed with the I boost so far.

Dimplex unit is fairly basic but does do the job, albeit with a slightly noisy fan (not a fault, it's just a noisy fan!).

I sold my new unused one on ebay for £125, wish I'd bought some more in hindsight!

Have recently succeeded in commissioning this device, which I bought on the £25 offer some time ago. Had to buy a CT clamp which fitted my meter tails.
It seems to work, but I'm puzzled about a number of things:
1. Why the screen often shows, simultaneously, surplus energy being diverted to the store (not full) AND being exported to grid - not the idea, surely?
2. Even more bizarrely, simultaneous diversion to hot water and IMPORT from grid - even less the idea!
3. At low diversion rates (< 0.2kW or so), shows positive diversion but neon on immersion heater switch not illuminated.
Comments from experts here welcomed.
Cheers

All,
I recently bought and installed a free E Dimplex diverter, end of Feb 22.  It worked fine for a couple of days, then was showing, “store full” even when there wasn’t hot water in the cylinder; the thermostat is calling for heat at this point. My electrician recommended fitting a new thermostat which I did. Then it wouldn’t pair. The sellers sent an all new unit, at no extra cost, and we-replaced both the diverter itself and the sender unit. It again worked very well for about 2 days and now has the same fault. So over 2 months It’s been working for about 4 days. I tried reset of the thermostat and that doesn’t seem to help. I phoned Dimplex, and they don’t seem to know how to fix it, I think their expertise has either left the company or they’ve moved on to something else since they stopped making these in 2018. Can any of you help?

Mark.

Hi,

I've got a one of these wired up to an oil heater as I don't have a hot water tank.  It shows "store full" when the radiator thermostat turns off and then waits too long before checking if it can divert more.  How long has it shown the "store full"?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for getting back to me, It was showing “store full” all the time and we had very sunny days recently and typically it was exporting between 0.1 and 2.0 kW for days and showing  store full throughout. I adjusted the settings of thermostat downwards until it opened and then up until it closed again, made no difference. I phoned Dimplex a number of times and they were of no use, doesn’t seem to be anyone there with expertise in this anymore. I had no choice but to do a factory reset and following this I cannot get the device to pair with the meter unit, It goes all the way through the pairing process and waits for 3 mins then states either “pairing failed” or “error code B19”. We tried adjusting the CT clamp, then a new CT clamp neither of which worked. This is now exactly the sequence of events that happened the first time, this second time is with an all new free E, which didn’t resolve the problem, but when we replaced the meter unit with a new one it worked for 2 days until the sequence of problems above occurred. If only I could find someone who understands the electronics I think the problem is solvable. The only other option is to buy another brand and start again.

Mark.
