Chuck -

Thanks for highlighting this!
> Motion gesture... 15000 downloads of the SDK.
*Promise* of higher fidelity (low latency) depth tracking and gesture
recognition for the masses.

LEAP used their early announcement to get 26,000 people (including
several members here!) to *sign up* for their SDK and first run of
hardware. I'm sure this was part of a business strategy do demonstrate
to investors the potential market/value for the product which has
existed only as a prototype (I think)? The press release/announcement
seems to be cagey enough to leave room the possibility that the don't
even have a manufacturing-design nailed down nor specific plans for
production.

If I read between the lines of the article correctly, I believe they
will select a mere "handful" for this privilege and then give them a
significant lead over the rest of us (assuming we are not selected as
an early-adoption candidate). It *does* seem to forebode the
likelihood that in 3-10 years webcams will be replaced by
motion/depth/gesture cams and that designing with that in mind is a good
idea!

This definitely informs our (Ambient Pixel, SFX Ambient Lab) idea of
what AnySurface(tm) Computing can be. Ideum's OpenGesture project
already has demonstration Kinect interface, this seems like an obvious
thing for them.
