Amazon AWS conference

Amazon is having their first large scale conference on their computing infrastructure, AWS (Amazon Web Services http://aws.amazon.com/).

I realize Amazon is not a glamorous name in the hosting world but they continuously produce very effective computing platforms.  But unlike Google, are seldom in beta and do not introduce products that they later remove.  And boy are they global! And last I measured, their backbone network speeds are over 50Mps.

Several companies you may use build their products on AWS.  One example is Dropbox, which uses AWS Simple Storage Service (S3) for your sync'ed data.  Similarly Flipboard uses their IT and service.

These apps and IT integration examples are used by Amazon to improve their services.  From a distance, I believe a company could cut their IT costs in half with AWS.  Hmm..that might be a great startup: a company that guides IT departments into cloud use.
