Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
It feels like it's been a long time, but honestly, there hasn't been much urgent to write about. There isn't typically much to report on in January, but even more so this year since the new semester starts at the beginning of January, now, instead of at the end of January. That, coupled with a lot of student and staff illnesses (mine included!), new student intake meetings, and me getting back into the swing of teaching a class again, and the month has just flown by!
Welcome to the new families who started with us this semester. This is relatively new for us to have a waitlist and to have families waiting patiently all year to get a spot. We are really excited to finally be able to offer some of these students a spot. They are all great additions and have fit seamlessly into our community. Welcome!
Our board meetings are monthly and always open to the public. Come join us!
We have a policy that all board members (new and returning) need to be vetted by a nominations panel comprised of one board member, one school administrator, and one parent. Parents, if you are interested in serving on this Nominations Advisory Panel, please respond to this email. Our bylaws state that the parent member will be selected by doing a random drawing from all interested parents. In case you're curious, the Nominations Panel board member is voted on by the board, and the administrator member is voted on by our school admin team.
One of my pet projects over the winter break was training AI to look for meaningful movements in a student's grades to try to identify early when a student might be slipping. The idea is that this analysis will eventually lead to a parent email so that we can all be there to help the student get back on track. The challenge with these kinds of emails is having the notification be relevant and not so frequent that they get ignored. I am currently trying to figure out a system that will strike the right balance. In the meantime, remember that current grades can always be checked on the CoreCompetency dashboard.
