Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
We handed out free test kits to most of you on Monday, but we still have kits available if you did not receive one. I didn't realize when I handed them out that the intent was for these to be explicitly used right before students return from winter break. If anyone already used the test kits, you can pick up another one tomorrow. We have plenty of them.
Here are the instructions for these test kits:
All students and school employees can get free iHealth At-Home COVID-19 tests to use before returning to school in the New Year! Please register for Primary.Health here: https://my.primary.health/l/sethigh
Step 1: Get Materials
Step 2: Test your student (or yourself if you are a school employee)
Step 3: Share your results on Primary.Health! Do not use the iHealth app!
Primary.Health is a secure website that reports your results to the school and the Health Department.
We had a bit of a rough week handling the consequences of last week's COVID-19 exposures, but we think we have everything contained now. This is a good reminder for all of us, though, that COVID-19 is still out there and we need to be super vigilant as a school community to make sure that the inevitable occasional case does not spread too deep among our families. I had a family member get COVID over Thanksgiving break and it is not fun trying to manage the spread when it is in your own household; and this is even when there aren't medical complications that arise from the disease. So, please, please, please, be super aware of symptoms and let us know immediately if anyone in your family is ever feeling sick so that we can be extra cautious and test everyone. It is so much easier for us to do the occasional test for our students than to deal with the contact-tracing and the reporting requirements when we do have an exposure.
We shared with the students during Advisory yesterday that there is now money available to students to fund their Passion Projects. The application for Passion Project Funding can be found here. Passion Projects are not required at SET, but we do encourage students to eventually start a project. We hope that providing money to support the projects will lead to much richer projects and reduce the friction that sometimes prevents a project from getting off the ground. The money may even encourage students to start projects that they wouldn't have done otherwise just so they can get their fair share of school funds!
We are looking for a student to be a member of the funding committee. Students, if you want to help us fairly allocate the money to other students, let me know. I'll be sending out instructions for how to apply for this role in January.
If we have any families who are struggling financially at the moment, we wanted to make sure that you knew about Rental and Utility assistance that is available in San Diego.

Students, we did it! Tomorrow is our last day and then we are off until January 3rd! Please stay safe, stay well, and enjoy a much deserved break. If you are behind on your coursework, use this time to catch up. There are only 3 more weeks of school before the semester ends on January 21st. Happy holidays everyone!
