Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

  • 11th graders schedule classes Mon, 10th on Tue, and 9th on Wed
  • Master Schedule

11th graders schedule classes on Mon, 10th on Tue and 9th on Wed

Students have registration windows based on seniority.  11th Graders start on Monday, 10th Graders on Tuesday and 9th Graders on Wednesday.  1:00PM for 10th and 11th, and 11:30AM for 9th.   We auto pre-scheduled everyone to make sure that there were no major conflicts so we feel good about this schedule.

Instructions for how to use the scheduling system can be found in text form here or in video form here.  Ignore the scheduling dates that are mentioned in the video.  It's an older video that I should have made generic so it works for each subsequent year, but there's good information in there for new students, so I'm still going to share it.

Master Schedule

The master schedule for next year is now live and can be found here, but really you should be following the instructions in the links above and only looking at the classes that are available for you based on your current grade level and the pre-reqs that you have completed.  You do this by clicking on the View Options link on your CoreCompetency dashboard (see the instructions in the links).

There are some new classes that I want to describe in case the titles are too cute to fully explain what they are.  Filming Your Story, Acting Out, and Sketch Acting are the new Performing Arts classes.  All will be different so you can take more than one at a time.  They're basically film acting, theater acting, and an SNL type class with sketches (comedic and non) written and acted by students.  There's also a new bio/psych hybrid class being co taught by biology and psychology experts that explores both the physical and mental processes that occur with human thought and emotion.  It's called Behind the Mind.  All of the other classes are the student favorites brought back by popular demand.  If we wind up needing another 5th period class, I may add in a Fall edition of one of my tech classes, but 5th isn't a great time for me to teach so I'm waiting to see if it will be necessary.  Let me know if you're interested in taking my class so that I can decide later if it would be helpful to add it into the schedule.

Know that popular classes fill up quickly, so you should be looking at the master schedule (that link above, or Reports|Master Schedule) throughout the week to make sure that the classes that you want are not already full.  You'll be able to add yourself to a waitlist, but if you are deep on the waitlist, it's not likely that you will get the class.  You will also want to sign up as early as possible in your scheduling window so that you can beat out everyone else who is in your grade.  Students who pay attention to emails like this and are on the ball always seem to get the classes that they need or want.  I wonder why.  :)

Note that there is an Algebra 2 - final math class that is designed to be a terminal math class for those students who have no interest in taking Pre-Calc and Calc.  The same material will be covered, but there will be a little less emphasis on making sure that you will be successful in advanced math classes.  It allows the students and the teachers to ease up a bit, and hopefully enjoy the math experience more.  The student, parent, and teacher all need to sign off on being in that class, so make sure that your parents agree with your decision.

Your advisors are available to help you if you are new and/or confused.  Just about any staff member (including me) will be able to help if your advisor is busy for some reason.  Ask early, though, so that you know what you should be doing before your scheduling window starts.

Finally, please pay attention to the scheduling error messages.  Those are now accurate.  In years past there were a lot of extraneous messages for some students, but we've worked to make the errors actually relevant now so that people stop ignoring them.  If you see an error, you should work with your advisor to try to resolve it.  The error messages are tied to your particular grad plan, too, so you should click on your grad plan so that you can understand what classes need to be completed in the future.  There's a link to your grad plan on the Core dashboard.

Please do not leave periods blank if you are thinking that you will TA , work on a Passion Project, or take a Mesa College class.  Those options all need to be pre-approved so you should be choosing Pre-Approved Other for each of the relevant periods.  You'll notice that Pre-Approved Other isn't an option until you get pre-approved.  So request pre-approval!  Just click on the request button next to the class.  If it's getting close to your scheduling window and your request hasn't been approved, remind the appropriate staff member to approve it.  Note that once the class has been approved, it will move over into the Allowed Options section for the period.

Finally all students need to be taking at least two classes at SET even if they are loading up on college classes.  It's the law so we can't ease up on that requirement.  TA'ing does count as one class but you can't just be a TA at SET, so find a new elective to take as well!

Thanks, everyone!
