Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

We are concerned that some of our families may not have access to sufficient food if California does not find a way to supplement the SNAP (CalFresh) benefits that expire today due to the Federal Government shutdown.  Starting Monday and for as long as this crisis continues, we will be accepting food donations that any family is welcome to take home.  The food items will be stored in the Staff Lounge.

Just so our families can gauge the need, we have around 30 to 40 families who currently receive CalFresh benefits.

Items that will be helpful include:

Proteins
Canned beans (black, kidney, garbanzo, pinto)
Canned tuna, salmon, or chicken
Peanut butter or other nut butters
Canned chili or stew
Shelf-stable tofu or soy protein packs

Grains & Carbs
Rice (white, brown, instant)
Pasta and noodles
Quinoa or couscous
Instant oatmeal or hot cereal packets
Crackers or rice cakes

Canned & Packaged Vegetables
Canned vegetables (corn, green beans, peas, carrots, mixed vegetables)
Canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, or tomato paste
Jarred pasta sauce

Canned & Packaged Fruit
Canned fruit in juice (peaches, pears, pineapple, fruit cocktail)
Applesauce
Dried fruit (raisins, apricots, cranberries)

Dairy & Dairy Alternatives
Shelf-stable milk (dairy or plant-based)
Powdered milk
Shelf-stable cheese spreads

Soups & Broths
Canned soups
Ramen or instant noodle soups
Bouillon cubes or stock

Snacks & Miscellaneous
Granola bars or protein bars
Popcorn (microwaveable or ready-to-eat)
Nuts and seeds (pre-packaged)
Shelf-stable condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, salad dressing)

Baking & Cooking Essentials
Cooking oil (vegetable, olive, or canola)
Sugar, flour, or cornmeal
Spices and seasonings (salt, pepper, basic herbs)

Thank you to those who are able to donate.  And for those of you who have a need, please let us know what we can do to help.  Thank you to Ms. Cozik for coming up for this solution and always thinking about what we can do to support our community.

Dr. McCurdy
