Still time in 2011 to Donate to SEDS!
A Personal Plea for Support from Director of National Projects, Michael Zwach
Hello Space Supporter,
My name is Michael Zwach and I am a student at Purdue University studying electrical engineering with passionate interests in the aerospace field. An organization that I have come to love is Students for the Exploration and Development of Space or commonly referred to as SEDS, and SEDS needs your help. I first became a member of SEDS about a year and half ago after first being introduced to the organization while working at NASA Ames Research Center and I immediately saw the potential of the organization. SEDS is exactly what it stands for, it is a student organization that unites students together whom have an interest in a space industry field to encourage the growth and development of space in the public world around us. As students we bring uncapped minds to a cause that has the potential to revolutionize the world around us.
As students in today's global economy, we have studied the Apollo era missions and everything that has happened since. This includes the prospects of today's current national space priorities and the rest of the world's. It's no secret to a advocate of space that China, India, and may other eastern countries are gearing up and launching space missions that they have never done before. In the mean time the US has inspired commercial companies to look to the night sky and shoot for the stars in an effort to bring a once government and military only space access program greater availability to the public domain. As students our interest is not just in future space access though, we want to be the ones developing breakthrough technologies and leading humans to other planets and outer space settlement. SEDS approaches this holistically, we reach out to high schools and younger students to encourage their interest of space, we host national projects to challenge our chapters to innovate and practice their skills and once a year we host the largest national student conference where we invite and host companies to come meet and speak with SEDS students. These projects and activities have allowed SEDS to flourish in the past decade but we need to expand our message to achieve the results that we want.
As the Director of National Project at SEDS-USA I have determined a few solutions to this problem. In the coming year SEDS will be reaching out to teacher organizations to inspire an increased level of space in education platforms, spread the message of SEDS and increase chapters around the nation. We intend to reach younger students to inspire them to continue to dream of being astronauts by having chapter outreach events such as astronomy nights and coordinated rocket launches with their school science programs. Many students dream of becoming astronauts when they are young and we want to enforce this for their future careers. Another project that SEDS-USA will be launching in the coming year will be addressing an increased level of awareness to developed space technologies and their influences in our modern society. It is with this project that we want to spread light to the public on how space really does change their everyday lives. As I mentioned prior though, we need your help to accomplish these goals. SEDS relies on donors and sponsors a like to share the message and potential of space. SEDS has been established as a 501c3 Non Profit Organization which means that your contributions to the future of space are tax deductable.
You can help SEDS spread its message and support current space interested students my making a donation to SEDS by contacting Sara Meschberger at vice-...@seds.org or endo...@seds.org (or clicking the link below). SEDS is currently looking for endowment fund donations and general funding donations. Support space interested students today!
