Every school and pre-school is invited to take part in an island-wide response to The Lost Words by Robert MacFarlane in the autumn term. Each school selects a year group, or a couple of year groups. Pupils are invited to work individually, in pairs or groups of four to choose a 'lost word' and investigate it. Each group would then be asked to make a display that would help the people of Guernsey to become interested and intrigued in the word again.

Resources Can be found here

Each Submission should contain :

  • a new spell (poem) or a story linked to the word

  • a model/sculpture

  • a sketch, a painting or a photograph

  • a map

  • an outline of historical relevance/uses of their chosen word

  • a Guernsey context/fact about their animal/plant

  • a list of interesting facts about their chosen word

  • find a ‘lost’ Guernsey word by interviewing members of the local  community or relatives

  • speak to their parents or carers to come up with a list of their own ‘lost words’ from early childhood e.g. jumpaline, spynoculars

  • Their evaluation of the process and their finished products
