Hi all -

John, Jamie, Lizz and I met at Moore Coffee Shop yesterday, and had a great time chatting about Meshtastic, the status of U Penn ARC and various other radio related topics.

For the meeting on July 27th, I will not be able to attend but please extend an invite to Ginger at gin...@phillymesh.net. They can represent Philly Mesh which you can learn more about at this website: https://phillymesh.net/. You are all also welcome to join the Discord here: https://discord.gg/MWWbAkRR9v

Meshtastic got written up in Wired magazine last month, check it out with this non-paywalled link: https://archive.ph/s38v5

The Meshtastic subreddit is very active and a great place to quickly learn about the technology: https://www.reddit.com/r/meshtastic/

I am currently carrying  the SenseCAP Card Tracker T1000-E for my mobile Meshtastic needs: https://www.seeedstudio.com/SenseCAP-Card-Tracker-T1000-E-for-Meshtastic-p-5913.html

I also picked up a Heltec WiFi LoRa 32(V3) from Iffy Books in Philadelphia (404 S 20th St, Philadelphia, PA 19103) which I plan to put in a solar powered case and mount on my roof soon.

Iffy Books is worth a visit and they have a Meshtastic 101 class you can sign up for here: https://iffybooks.net/series/%F0%9F%93%A1-meshtastic-101/

Here are some of the major players for Meshtastic boards as I see it right now: RAKwireless, LilyGO, SEEED and Heltec. They have their pros and cons, as some products focus on all in one boards, while others focus on modularity. It depends on the use case of course.

Looking forward to meeting up again soon and also the outcome of the July 27th meeting where we hopefully start to plan installing a Meshtastic node somewhere high up on Penn's campus.

Please also check out this wonderful article about Meshtastic in Philly which does a way better job then I did to explain where the community is currently at. https://phillymesh.net/2025/06/16/getting-started/

Hi all - two more things:

1. Please join me in the meshtastic thread in the Penn ARC Discord to continue chatting about Meshtastic: https://discord.com/channels/1343780553652043827/1386150077797499051
2. You may have seen the following at the end of my first email "To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an email to wireless+u...@seas.upenn.edu." I did not type that, it was automatically appended to my email by Google Groups, as I sent it from the Google Groups interface (https://groups.google.com/a/seas.upenn.edu/g/wireless). Sorry for any confusion that may have caused.
