Jefferson: Most exciting.  for some reason i never got this e-mail on your visit but Lizz did forward.

More news on the repeater at Penn 146.685

Bob and Saul gave me permission to host a 2 meter net on that machine which we will probably do this Spring.

Part of this is to accommodate interest in the community.  We normally use the Phil-Mont machine - 147.03 - but that machine is getting filled up and regardless I want to have a net at Penn.

If the students want to join in the net or help with the programming: it will be on 146.685 PL146.2 and they can get it (listen) on the SDR’s JMS has for interested parties or their equipment.

The main point of this net it to have fun.

Also, for Em Comms we need people more familiar with the Penn repeater, especially as the World Cup Soccer 2026 ARES event approaches.  When we switch repeaters, people also have to switch PL codes to 146.2 hz so we need familiarity with more hams - which we can foster with a fun net.  Phil Mont does this with their PASTA net on Mondays.

We plan to cover the ham radio news and the ARRL news as long as what the other colleges like Cornell and M.I.T. and CMU are up to plus Villanova, Scranton and Temple.

We might try to cross-band it on the 440 Temple repeater K3TU, which is something else we want to research and test for EM Comms and their Trustee K3DS said we can use that machine for the World Cup comms as well.

Let me and Lizz WB3BLF know any ideas you and the crew have that you think would be fun for the net (topical).

We have a CW for beginners portion, which will be either at the end or on another night or that might remain on Phil-Mont.  One member wants to have an antenna build net so we will start with that for a topic.

Point is we are looking for ideas so when you all meet on Campus please throw that out to the students.

At the World Cup event, when the ARES net is not running I plan on my shift to cover the world cup soccer scores, the tennis match scores (because I like tennis)…..whatever.

This will be our net and we can make it anything we want.  It would be great to get a contribution to the net from the students - be it undergrad or grad and the staff / professors too.

This is Penn - the benefit of having a repeater on Campus and the great crew at HARC.  Also it is something that can attract new hams from Penn - If we have Penn kids on the net chatting about whatever they are passionate about / feel like.  Also - no time commitment…either join the net that week or not.

For now - that is our antenna on Campus so use it at will !  Maybe bump out the thoughts on your when2meet reminder.

LMK thoughts.

Hi everyone,

This weekend, I visited Pittsburgh and had the opportunity to tour W3VC, the amateur radio club at Carnegie Mellon University. They operate a UHF and VHF repeater, a 100-watt HF rig, and business radios for campus events. Their shack is truly amazing.

After COVID, their club has also grown from just a few people to now almost 30 members.

Just another reminder to fill out the When2Meet if you are on campus so we can get the semester kickstarted!https://www.when2meet.com/?34373016-FePuM
