Results from eROSITA and XRISM are sharpening our anticipation for NewAthena. The recent Special Issue call drew an exceptional response, and the restructured, 1100-member NewAthena Community is already actively engaged through its Working Groups. Their efforts are focused on strengthening the mission’s scientific goals as preparations for the 2026 Red Book progress toward Adoption in 2027.

2026 Calendar

The 2026 NewAthena calendar builds on last year’s edition, highlighting the milestone of establishing the NewAthena Science Community, now organised into seven working groups. A high-resolution version of the calendar is available here.

A&A Special Issue

We thank again the Athena Community and the astronomical community at large for their overwhelming response to the call for abstracts for an A&A Special Issue dedicated to the mission. The consolidated Table of Contents for the Special Issue will be communicated by January, with an expected deadline to submit papers for internal review in September.
