Expanding the Predictive Power of Stellar Population Models
Alexandre Vazdekis (Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, ES)

I will present recent advancements in stellar population models developed for higher precision spectroscopic analyses, extending their applicability beyond the optical into the near-infrared (NIR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectral ranges. This extended wavelength coverage provides unprecedented abilities to constrain the physical properties of stellar populations across cosmic time. A key aspect of these developments is the refined treatment of varying elemental abundance ratios, achieved by combining fully empirical stellar spectra with differential corrections derived from newly computed theoretical models. These improvements significantly enhance the predictive power and flexibility of population synthesis techniques, offering robust diagnostic tools for interpreting data from current and upcoming spectroscopic programs, including JWST and ELT. By jointly exploiting the optical, NIR, and UV regimes, these models enable a more complete characterization of galaxies, from their stellar mass buildup and chemical enrichment to the role of the earliest stellar populations and the evolution of the initial mass function. I will show how these advancements allow us to derive more accurate constraints on galaxy formation and evolution, from the era of Cosmic Dawn to Cosmic Noon, and to push the boundaries of stellar population modeling.

The talk will be recorded and uploaded to our YouTube Channel:

Looking forward to seeing you at the seminar!
