Cari colleghi,
è stato da poco pubblicato presso l'University of Hertfordshire il bando
sotto per un dottorato di ricerca.
Vi chiederei gentilmente di inoltrare queste informazioni alle persone
potenzialmente
interessate.
Grazie,

Title - Brown Dwarfs in Gaia (PhD studentship)
Supervision - Hugh Jones (University of Hertfordshire) and Richard Smart
(Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino)
Location - Based primarily in Hatfield at the University of Hertfordshire
though long periods of work are envisaged at the Osservatorio Astrofisico
di Torino and elsewhere
Outline - The general aim of the PhD is to exploit the Gaia results to
bring significant advances to the field of brown dwarfs. The research plan
is intended to follow the Gaia Data Release schedule and will include
compilation of photometry and spectroscopy for known L dwarfs being
observed by Gaia, interpretation of colour-colour diagrams using Gaia and
infrared photometry, identification of all new L dwarfs observed by Gaia,
review of distance-dependent calibrations, kinematic analysis and search
for common proper motion objects. Scientific exploitation of the Gaia brown
dwarfs sample will include derivation of the local luminosity and mass
function, characterisation of benchmarks as well as the analysis of
physical parameters such as age/mass versus photometric/spectroscopic
features.
Dates - Applications received by 20th August 2018 will be considered, the
studentship is envisaged to start in September / October 2018.
Enquires -

Funding - The PhD funding is supported at the standard UK rate (£14,777 in
