Título:  ESA Project Scientist for the newly adopted mission ARRAKIHS

Centro:  ESA

Tipo:  Otros/Others

descripción:

The European Space Agency is seeking a Project Scientist for ARRAKIHS,
the next fast-class mission that was recently adopted in its
world-leading Science Programme. ARRAKIHS will observe the faint light
from the haloes of stars and gas around galaxies, opening a powerful
window onto cosmic history. As Project Scientist in the Office of
Science Engagement and Oversight, you will help ensure that the
mission's scientific ambition remains at the heart of its development,
operations and legacy.

You will represent ARRAKIHS science both internally within ESA and
beyond; coordinating science requirements within the mission's Science
Team, monitoring their implementation through every phase, and acting as
the key interface between internal teams, external partners and the
wider scientific community. You will optimise the mission's scientific
return within technical, financial, programmatic and safety constraints,
report progress to ESA management and advisory bodies, and help keep
ARRAKIHS visible, compelling and scientifically ambitious.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an active scientist to combine
mission leadership, international collaboration, community engagement
and personal research within ESA's Science Faculty. If you are
motivated by ambitious space science, skilled at connecting people and
ideas, and ready to champion a mission expected to launch by the end of
2030, this role offers the chance to contribute to Europe's leadership
in space science.

The position should be open for submissions in weeks 2-4 July with online interviews planned for September. We do a publicity blitz ahead of publishing the job ad on careers.esa.int. Stay tuned, because location might be Noordwijk (ESTEC) or Villanueva de la Cañada (ESAC).

Doubts? Please contact Gaitee Hussain <Gaitee....@esa.int> or Oliver Jennrich.

Título:  2-year postdoc contract: Unveiling AGN feeding and feedback across cosmic time with JWST

Centro:  Centro de Astrobiología

Tipo:  Postdoctoral

descripción:

The Centro de Astrobiología (CAB, INTA-CSIC) announces a selection process for a 2-year postdoc contract to the national project PID2024-159902NA-I00 (Estudio de los procesos de acreción y retroalimentación en núcleos activos de galaxias a través del tiempo cósmico con el telescopio espacial James Webb); PIs. Ismael Garcia-Bernete & Michele Perna.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the most powerful observatory ever deployed in space and is transforming our understanding of galaxy evolution. This project aims to investigate how supermassive black holes grow and influence their host galaxies across cosmic time, taking full advantage of JWST's unprecedented sensitivity and resolution.

By analysing multiple AGN tracers and applying advanced diagnostic tools, we will study AGN-driven outflows and their interaction with the host galaxy's interstellar medium, evaluating their effects on galactic structures, kinematics, and the chemical composition of gas, dust, and molecules at different epochs. We will also explore the feeding processes that fuel black hole growth, such as gas inflows and environmental mechanisms.

The successful candidate will participate in the analysis of JWST and complementary multi-wavelength datasets, modelling of AGN emission, and the interpretation of results within the broader framework of galaxy evolution.

The project is led by Dr Michele Perna and Dr Ismael García-Bernete at the Centro de Astrobiología (CAB, CSIC–INTA) in collaboration with international partners, and focuses on AGN at redshifts of z~1-3 observed with JWST.

Interested candidates should send their CV, a motivation letter and the email address a previous mentor willing to provide a reference. Please submit the material by July 1st, 2026, to: Ismael García-Bernete (igbe...@cab.inta-csic.es) and Michele Perna (mpe...@cab.inta-csic.es).
