The Department of Physics and Astronomy (DIFA) of the University of
Bologna and the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF)
invite applications for 10 positions to their joint PhD Course in
Astrophysics.

FOUR positions are funded by the University of Bologna. The subjects of
the PhD theses are in the various research areas of the Astrophysics
section of DIFA. These include: Stars; Stellar evolution; Stellar
populations; Chemistry and Dynamics of stellar systems; Galaxy evolution
and dynamics; Chemistry of Galaxies and Interstellar Medium; Large-Scale
Structure and Cosmology; Radio-astronomy; High-Energy Astrophysics;
Astronomical Technology.

Successful candidates can choose among the list of projects which can be
downloaded at the page:
http://www.cosmic-lab.eu/Cosmic-Lab/PhD34.html [1]

THREE positions are funded by INAF and are devoted to specific projects
proposed by the two main INAF institutes in Bologna. Specifically:
Two projects can be selected among the four proposed by the Astrophysics
and Space Science Observatory of Bologna (OAS)
One project can be selected among the three proposed by the Institute of
Radio-Astronomy (IRA)

The list of the available projects can be downloaded at the page:
http://www.cosmic-lab.eu/Cosmic-Lab/PhD34.html [1]

TWO positions are funded by ERC grant and devoted to specific projects:

_Study of new particle acceleration mechanisms in galaxy clusters
through low frequency radio observations_

Supervisor: Prof. Annalisa Bonafede (DIFA - UNIBO) PI of the project
DRANOEL (Deciphering RAdio NOn-Thermal Emission on the Largestscale)

_ MICROSCOPIC ASPECTS OF THE ACCELERATION OF RADIO EMITTING ELECTRONS
BY COSMIC SHOCKS_

Supervisor: Dr. Franco Vazza – (DIFA-UNIBO), PI of the project
MAGCOW-The Magnetised Cosmic Web (see
http://cosmosimfrazza.myfreesites.net/magcow [2] )

ONE position is funded by a specific INAF grant and devoted to the
following project:

_FRONTIERA: HIGH RESOLUTION SPECTROSCOPY OF STELLAR POPULATIONS IN THE
ERA OF EXTREME LARGE TELESCOPES_

Supervisor: Dr. Donatella Romano – (INAF-OAS), Responsible for the
project FRONTIERA (Fostering high ResolutiON Technology and Innovation
for Exoplanets and Research in Astrophysics)

A brief description of the projects can be downloaded at the page:

The University of Bologna, founded in 1088, is the oldest University in
the Western world. The Astrophysics section of DIFA consists of about 20
faculties, 20 postdoctoral associates and 25 PhD students. English is
the common language in all the astronomical institutes. Bologna is a
friendly and lively town, where the University, with about 100000
students, plays a fundamental role.

PhD positions are funded for three years. The yearly amount of the
