The Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón (CEFCA), in
Teruel, Spain, invites applications for a permanent position of
Researcher in Astrophysics and Cosmology.
CEFCA operates the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre (OAJ), home to
two wide-field optical survey telescopes: the 2.5m JST250 (3 deg2 FoV),
which carries out J-PAS (54 filters of 14nm), and the 83cm JAST80 (2
deg2 FoV), devoted to J-PLUS (12 optical filters) and the time-domain
survey J-VAR (7 filters in at least 33 epochs). A new 1.5m-class
facility with a ~20 deg2 FoV, dedicated to planetary defence,
time-domain and minor-bodies science, and space-debris monitoring, is
approved to be operative by 2030. CEFCA is also a core institution of
the ARRAKIHS ESA mission.
The successful candidate will join the CEFCA Research Area as a staff
member, exploiting OAJ data in one of the following strategic topics:
Solar System minor bodies, the Milky Way, optical transients, galaxy
formation and evolution, the low-surface-brightness Universe, or
Cosmology. Duties include research, applying for competitive funding,
developing scientific codes to compute and validate value-added
catalogues, supervising young researchers, and participation in CEFCA's
outreach activities, including at Galáctica, CEFCA's science outreach
and visitor centre in Teruel.
Requirements: PhD in Astronomy or a related field; fluent English.
Salary: annual base €50,222.65 (1,650 h). Permanent contract; work
place: CEFCA Headquarters, Teruel, Spain (possible stays at the OAJ and
Galáctica).
