Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the “
Galaxy Evolution with the JWST near and far” meeting, which will be held as part of the COSPAR 2026 Scientific Meeting 46th General Assembly, taking place in
Florence (Italy), from 1st to 9th August 2026. Further information about this session can be found at:
https://www.cospar-assembly.org/admin/session_cospar.php?session=1467Scientific rationale: With its unprecedented sensitivity and unparalleled spatial resolution, JWST is revolutionizing our view of galaxy evolution. From unveiling the dusty hearts of nearby galaxies to revealing the formation and growth of the first galaxies and supermassive blackholes, JWST’s transformative power enables us to trace the evolution of stars, gas and dust and chart the growth of structures in the Universe.
In this meeting we wish to bring together communities working with JWST observations of galaxies near and far to discuss new insights and findings on linking dust and gas properties of galaxies observed at different scales and cosmic times.
The main objectives of the meeting will be to review the progress made so far whilst keeping an open mind to future prospects and discoveries.
Topics that will be covered include (but are not limited to)
: 1) First galaxies – first stars and stellar populations; 2) Formation and evolution of supermassive black holes: the impact of the AGN on its host galaxy; 3) Gas, dust and molecules: the ever-evolving Interstellar Medium of galaxiesThe meeting will review our current understanding of the growth of structures at the early Universe, the properties of galaxies at Cosmic Noon and the detailed physical insight we can gain from studies of galaxies in the local Universe by comparing observations to theoretical models and numerical simulations. While the focus will be on observations with the JWST crucial insights can be gleaned from synergies with other facilities.
Abstract submission is now open, and
the deadline is 20th February 2026. Please submit your contribution via the following link:
