Observatori del Montsec (OdM)

Call for Proposals | Semester 2026A

Dear observers,

The Observatori del Montsec (OdM) opens a Call for Proposals to apply for observation time at the 80-cm diameter Telescopi Joan Oró (TJO) with the LAIA camera and the ARES spectrograph.

In addition, in collaboration with the Observatori Fabra of RACAB, the OdM opens a Call for Proposals to apply for observation time at the 50-cm diameter Telescopi Fabra-ROA Montsec (TFRM), which is a modified Baker-Nunn Camera.

Proposals can be submitted until:
November 7, 2025 at midnight

For observations from January 1 to June 30, 2026.

Submit via MUR System

Information for regular TJO proposals

General

  • Individual proposals are expected to request a maximum of 100 hours of observation time for the TJO.

LAIA camera

  • LAIA is a 4k x 4k back-illuminated camera that provides a non-vignetted circular 30' FoV and a 0.4"/pixel resolution.
  • LAIA includes a filter wheel containing broadband Johnson-Cousins (UBVRcIc) and SDSS (griz), and narrowband Hα (650-664nm) filters.
  • In addition to raw images, reduced data with astrometry and standard photometry are provided.

ARES spectrograph

  • ARES has a R=12000 spectral resolution and can operate with two different VPHs that provide two different spectral windows:
    • 495-530nm (including the MgI triplet)
    • 630-673nm (including the Hα line)
  • A new automatic data reduction pipeline for ARES is available and operating since March 2025. Extracted and calibrated spectra are now provided at phase 3 of MUR, together with radial velocity measurements and spectral line equivalent widths for each ARES observed spectrum. More info.

Information for TFRM proposals

General

  • No explicit recommendation is given for the maximum observation time for TFRM proposals, although the publicly available observation time is significantly smaller than for the TJO available time.

Instrumentation

  • The TFRM operates with a longpass filter above 475 nm and a 4k x 4k front-illuminated CCD camera that provides a 4.4˚ x 4.4˚ field of view and a 3.9"/pixel resolution. Raw images are provided.
  • It is expected that this camera will be replaced by a FLI KL4040BSI (back illuminated 4k x 4k CMOS with similar characteristics of 4.4˚ x 4.4˚ degrees FoV, 3.9"/pixel) during the semester.

Inquiries

  • If you have inquiries regarding TFRM proposals please contact Jorge Núñez jo...@fqa.ub.edu directly.
