AGN Selection Methods in the Euclid Era
Abstract: Euclid’s capabilities are already demonstrating their impact across astrophysics. For Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) in particular, the quality and quantity of Euclid data enable us to explore a variety of methodologies for AGN identification, contributing to a more complete census of these sources. In this talk, I will present one of the first catalogues of candidate AGN in the Euclid Q1 fields, covering 63 sq. deg. In this work, we constructed a multi-wavelength catalogue by combining Euclid, GALEX, GAIA, DES, WISE, and DESI data, identifying a total of 229,779 AGN candidates across various selection methods, which corresponds to an AGN surface density of 3,641 per sq. deg. for 18<I<24.5. We also identified a subsample of 30,422 candidates yielding a surface density of 482 per sq. deg. when limited to 18<I<22. The AGN surface densities recovered from this work are consistent with predictions based on AGN X-ray luminosity functions.
