Research Associate in Media Audiences and Social Change (2 years, full-time)
Bournemouth University - hybrid (UK-based, remote optional)
https://vacancies.bournemouth.ac.uk/.../postdoctoral...

We are looking for a postdoctoral Research Associate for the Leverhulme Research Project “Media Representations of Disability”, which investigates how UK mainstream media can influence audience attitudes and help reduce stigma towards disability. Bringing together media studies, disability studies and psychology, the project combines qualitative and quantitative audience research to bridge theoretical insight and real-world social impact. Led by Dr Catalin Brylla, with Prof Dan Jackson (Bournemouth University), Prof Geoff Haddock (Cardiff University) and Dr Miguel Ramos (Birmingham University), and collaborating with the BFI, BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Sky and The TV Access Project, it offers a rich interdisciplinary and industry-linked environment. The Research Associate will be based at (in-person or remotely) BU’s Faculty of Media, Science and Technology and hosted by the Centre for the Study of Conflict, Emotion and Social Justice. They will help design and conduct qualitative and quantitative audience studies, analyse media texts, uphold rigorous ethical standards and co-author academic and public-facing outputs within a flexible, hybrid-working framework.
NOTE: Even thought the position is optionally remote, the applicant must be based in the UK for the project’s duration.
Closing date 28 November 2025

Please email Catalin Brylla cbr...@bournemouth.ac.uk for any informal inquiries about the role.
