Dear Troop 132/1132 Families and Scouters,
It is with great sadness that I share the news that Troop 132/1132 has lost a great Scouter. John Kosek passed away this past weekend.
John was actively involved with our troop for nearly three decades. His commitment to Scouting and to the development of young people was unwavering. John was more than a volunteer; he was a mentor, a friend, a merit badge counselor, a member of the troop’s Eagle pre boards, and a dedicated servant to the NEPA Council Advancement Committee as a member of the Council Eagle Board of Review. His guidance, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impact on countless Scouts and leaders.
To honor John’s remarkable legacy and lifelong dedication to Scouting, Troop 132/1132 will be purchasing a James E. West Fellowship Award in his name. The James E. West Award is one of Scouting’s highest honors, recognizing individuals who have made an enduring impact through their service and support of the Scouting mission. It is a fitting tribute to John’s decades of selfless commitment.
If you would like to contribute to this meaningful recognition, please feel free to make a donation to Troop 132, which will be applied toward the James West Award in John’s honor.
On Sunday January 11th at 3pm we will be meeting as a Troop at Straunch Funeral Home, 3 First St in Springbrook. Please wear your Class A uniforms. We will all go in together. It has been asked if you are not feeling well to please not attend. Also, if you have a COVID test at home, please take it to make sure you are negative before attending or wear a mask. Mrs. Kosek is just getting over an illness and is still not 100%. We will march in as Troop and salute Mr. Kosek and then we will file out. If anyone has a story, they would like to share about Mr. Kosek you are encouraged to stay and share it.
Please keep John’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
Yours in Scouting,
Matt Flannigan
