My process has a section with parallel tasks splitting and joining with an AND gate but I end up with 3 instances of the process. I thought the instances would merge at the join gate but it does not. If this is normal behavior how do prevent the non-active instances from showing in reports?

Thanks

Hi,
A single process would generate a single instance only until there are sub-processes attached to it.Kindly share your screenshot where you have multiple instances for a single process.

Hi Bidisha, I have attached screen shots of the process and resulting three instances created by the process.

Thanks

Hi,
The screenshot you have sent is a WI report and not Process report. It has multiple instances because your WI contains multiple screens. But it would generate a single process instance since your process does not contain sub-processes.

You can't stop multiple WI instances getting generated because each instance would be generated for each screen. But if you don't want to display all,you can select the particular screen you want to display on report and save it.

Hi Bidisha,

I am sorry but that is not a satisfactory answer. One cannot design reports based on each screen, you want to see data moving through the process and all it's screens in one report, the logical expectation is for the two parallel screens to merge at the JOIN/AND gate (that's why it's called JOIN Gate). Besides, you would not want orphaned instances left out there once the process is complete, the report shows three instances, one of which has finished the process and the other two in each of the screens designed for the parallel tasks. Please escalate this issue if necessary.

Thanks,
Afshin

Hi,
Firstly, WI instances have nothing to do with Gateways. So,whether it is Join And or Join XOR, it has no effect on WI instances.WI instance depends on Screens and moreover,we can't customize it because it is generated by platform.

Secondly, Gateways are used in Process and the process is having a single instance. So if you want one instance, you can display the Process report rather than WI report.

Thirdly,Join And is used when you want that both the parallel manual activities are completed before reaching the next activity or the process end. So,basically if one manual activity is performed,it will wait for the other to be over and after that only,it will go to the next activity.

Hope you are clear.

Bidisha,

I am sorry but this still is not a solution! I am simply trying to produce a report that shows data entered via a WI and modified though subsequent screens in their various stages. As is, I am unable to do that with multiple instances (or screens) generated by RMP due to a parallel process. I am fairly certain that I am not the first person trying to do this, so there must be an easy solution to this problem that this exchange is not producing and causing delay in my implementation.

Best,
Afshin

Hi,
As of now,I can only suggest you to use a Process report if you want to display a single instance. WI report will display multiple instances for multiple screens and you can't combine all of them into one.
I will let you know once there is any updation regarding this from platform side which may help you achieve what you are looking for.

Thanks & Regards
Bidisha
