Hey Future Doctors,

We have been working behind the scenes to make and distribute face shields for the last month now. We have been setting up a network of students and working with many organizations such as the COVID rapid response team, LMSA @ RFU, and MOLA (Medical Organization for Latino Advancement, and we are now calling for aid.

We are currently working with the COVID rapid team (@GETMEPPE) to obtain official PPE gear, as well as, make our own face shields and masks which are donating to local healthcare providers. My Goal is to ensure that every healthcare worker and every hospital with a need for PPE has that need met. While Lake county has not been particularly hit hard by the Covid19 pandemic it is no secret that cities of color such as the west and south sides of chicago, Waukegan, North Chicago, and even the West and South suburbs of Chicago are often forgotten in times like these. That's why I'm asking for your help in making and distributing face masks and shields to these local heros.

I know that we are studying for various step exams and getting through our online classes so I understand that time is limited. That's why I'm reaching out to our social network of minority groups at RFU, as well as, friends and family.

We are distributing PPE throughout the Chicagoland area:

  • Northern Suburbs

  • Southern Wisconsin (Racine, Kenosha , Milwaukee)

  • South suburbs

  • West suburbs

  • Chicago/ Cook County

We are looking for

  • Distributors and Drop Points (places where materials can be dropped off to be picked up by another team member)

  • Cutters: to cut fabrics and cotton for the facemasks

  • Sewing team: people with sewing machines who can make the face shields

  • Callers: individuals who can communicate and contact hospital administrators to assess the need of PPEs.

If you would like to join our efforts or have any questions feel free to contact me. Otherwise, please feel free to sign up by adding your name next to the group you feel comfortable volunteering in using the excel sheet below. Thank you!
