TxSWANA membership list

Folks,

I just received the TxSWANA newsletter and it lists the new members that have recently joined their organization. I wonder if STAR could approach these folks now or after the New Year to see if they are inclined to joining. If we approached them now and got them to sign on (even if it was 10% of this list), then we'd have more bargaining power during the legislative session.

Thoughts?

Nice idea.  Is there a list of advantages to joining STAR?   (Yes, I feel like I should know this).  Just wondering if we have a fact sheet that has bullet points on the benefits of being a member.   SInce a lot of these members are cities, is there data that is shared either on our website or through a member portal that would allow each city to see the progress and programs that each city is implementing?  Including their population.  (I would be interested in helping to create this if it does not exist).

Good to hear from you. Excellent ideas, but I'm not sure about the fact sheet on membership benefits. I can't remember if the Membership Committee drafted something like that. 

Adrian or Alex - any thoughts on this or maybe refresh my memory?

I was browsing through our documents, and we don't have an official list of benefits, yet. Definitely something we can start developing for our purposes. Alexandra,

I looked at the list of reasons to engage with STAR which includes:

• "Get assistance with recycling legislation"
• "Identify best practices for reducing waste in similar sized cities"

I am working on legislation to track garbage by jurisdiction.  This legislation has proven to reduce waste by creating a scoreboard and hence a friendly competition.  This also allows cities to see who has implemented "best practices".

I will reach out to the legislative committee for further input.  If there is a recommended process for requesting the endorsement of STAR and of contacting the legislative committee - please let me know.
