Winter Field DayPlease join us on Saturday and Sunday, January 24 and 25, at Pocahontas State Park as RATS activates for Winter Field Day! All amateur radio operators and non-licensed friends are welcome! We will start gathering at the Powhatan Dining Hall at 10am EST Saturday, and will operate into the night and on into Sunday afternoon. Plenty of space will be available for staying overnight indoors (you might want to bring a cot), and good news - we will have indoor bathrooms! We will have HF radios and antennas for the operating event. Feel free to bring VHF or UHF radios and antennas to make simplex contacts on those bands. This year's event is a potluck, so you're encouraged to bring a dish (store-bought is great!) and non-alcoholic beverages. Also, if you feel like cooking, we will have access to the dining hall's full commercial kitchen - just bring your own pots, pans, and utensils! RATS will be supplying basic cutlery, plates, and bowls. There will be FCC testing again this year, presented by the Catastrophic Amateur Tactical Squad (CATS). Testing will begin at 11am on Saturday. If there's enough interest, we'll be having a foxhunt too, so you're encouraged to bring directional 2-meter antennas, radios, and other DF gear to participate! We hope to see you at the park! |
