Hello PYSF Parents and Sailors—

So, the power outage…ha.  Seems to be all we hear about.  I cancelled Wednesday practice on Tuesday afternoon thinking that with the tunnels closed and electricity out for East Bay, Marin and the Coast that the traffic would be horrendous.  Turns out CalTrans found generators to keep the tunnels open (why don’t they exist anyway?!) and the power stayed on until 8pm Wednesday…  Glad to know they are doing everything they can to avoid potential fires.  And I wish they didn’t make it out to be as bad for everyone as they did.  Lesson learned…  As usual, we have a lot going on!  Please see the updates below.  I hope to see you down by the water soon! —Molly

Move Update
  • We have so many pieces to get in place, and it seems like once we have them somewhere we find a better spot for them…!!  Our three main areas are slowly getting finalized (Classroom, Dry Storage and Parking Lot).  We have a meeting area back in Dry Storage now for the Race Team, with tables, whiteboard, etc.  All PYSF boats are in their spots over in the Parking Lot now.  Electricity to Dry Storage and flooring for the Classroom Area are the next items to be completed.
  • A HUGE thank you to Clark Hobson, Brian Theodore and Mike Winter who helped build stands for all of our boats that live on dollies (30 in total!!).  Once the rain comes, these will be invaluable.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!  We have also received more office furniture from Peter Lim and turf from Su-Mien Chong.  We will be using the turf for sail rigging, as well as flooring for our meeting spaces.  If you are curious on how to help, just ask me!  We will be installing flooring soon, lights over the classroom area, and will be doing a large fundraising drive for the roof structure.  It really does take a village!!
  • Distinction between Westpoint Harbor and The Club at Westpoint:
    • Westpoint Harbor oversees the daily operation of the marina.  Their office is located in the Harbor Building that you pass on the way to PYSF.  The marina is very active, with numerous tenants (like us), 400+ slips, 40+ liveaboards, etc.  They do not oversee The Club at Westpoint.
    • The Club at Westpoint uses the top floor of the Harbor Building for their gatherings while they wait for construction to be completed on their actual clubhouse.  We have had a number of people inquire about joining The Club, meeting the current members, etc.  The best way to learn about The Club is to send an email to  g...@theclubatwestpoint.com
  • A Speed Bump has been added to the entry to Westpoint Harbor to assist in keeping everyone safe.  I foresee another being installed closer to the Parking Lot area where our boats are located in the near future.  Please remember how many people are walking around the Harbor and might not be looking for oncoming traffic (kids included!) and keep to the 10mph see limit.

Intro/Intermediate Classes
  • Learn-to-Sail: You will have day 4 (of 8) this Saturday with Hanna and Tommy.
  • Opti Intro-to-Race: Your last day of the season will be this Sunday!  You will be with Tommy and Oliver.  Oliver is the Green Team Coach and can both instructors can help answer your questions about what the next step for your sailor will be.  Options include Intro-to-Race again next season, Opti Green if they are ready, or FJ Intro if a 2-person boat makes more sense for them.  Please check in with Oliver and Tommy at the end of class.
  • FJ Intro: This Sunday is your last day!  You will be with Todd.  Please check in with him at the end of class to see what your next steps would be.  Options include repeating FJ Intro (to become comfortable with both skippering and crewing), High School Race Team (for anyone in 8th grade or higher), or 420 Intermediate (if knowledge base includes skippering confidently).
  • 420 Intermediate: Friday practice this week.  NO Sunday practice scheduled.
